Unidas Se Puede La Laguna presented its candidacy for the 28M municipal elections on Friday, which will be headed by Rubens Ascanio and which will have a professional team with a high management capacity to face the challenges faced by the town of Tenerife, third largest municipality in the Canary Islands, in a time of unprecedented change that requires “a brave government for a brave population, which faces the future with a necessary strategic vision, which provides four years of good management and a commitment to important social values”.

This was highlighted by the candidate for Mayor, Rubens Ascanio, in a meeting with militants and supporters and which was attended by the Minister of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands and candidate of United Sí Podemos for the presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana.

The confluence of the left in the town, which is currently the third municipal political force and which is made up of Izquierda Unida, Podemos and Sí se puede, defends the importance of unity and teamwork of all left-wing and progressive people in a time of great challenges and where short-term visions have no place.

Ascanio headed together with Idaira Afonso and Saúl Gómez Alberola, numbers 2 and 3 on the list respectively, they led an act at La Laguna Gran Hotel with which this formation formally opened the pre-campaign. In this meeting, the motto of these elections was presented to the population, ‘La Laguna Valiente’, and to the first 12 people who will make up the municipal electoral list, determined by their abilities and aptitudes, “a professional team, highly trained and experienced to manage all areas of government”, highlighted the candidate.

With closeness, effort, unity, participation, a strategic vision, adaptation to new challenges and a high capacity for innovation as its main strengths, Unidas se Puede maintains a clear commitment and focuses its action on defending rights social, attention to the most vulnerable groups, employment, equality and diversity, sustainability and environmental protection.

In addition to transparency, the fight against corruption, the recovery of public spaces for citizens and more and better jobs, all with a firm defense of the public and a strategic economic approach for a new Lagoon that is prepared for the challenges of the future.

The candidacy is completed by Yaiza Afonso Higuera, David Carballo Ceballos, Aitami Bruno Bencomo, Carolina Castro Reyes, María del Cristo González Castillo, Manuel Hernández González, Eligio Hernández Bolaños, Giorgia Lorenzetti and María Dolores Armas Gutiérrez.

The team includes profiles such as the current head of the Sports, Tourism, Equality, Diversity and Quality of Life area, Idaira Afonso; the councilor who manages Commerce and Local Development, Aitami Bruno; and the current spokesman for the Sí Podemos Canarias group in the Cabildo, David Carballo. It also adds people who in these four years have been an active part of municipal management, such as Saúl Gómez, Yaiza Afonso, Carolina Castro or Giorgia Lorenzetti.

The act also had a significant presence of people belonging to associations, groups and entities of the municipality.

Unidas Se Puede is running in these municipal elections with the endorsement of four years of co-government in the City Council of La Laguna and at the head of the areas of Social Welfare, Sustainable Mobility, Tourism, Equality and LGTBI, Sports, Commerce, Employment, Economic Development , Education, Youth, Environment, Animal Welfare, Fight against Climate Change and Health, councils in which they have stood out for innovative policies and projects and which have also been recognized and awarded outside the borders of the Archipelago.
