The first meeting of the new negotiating round to unblock the labor conflict in the tramway took place in a climate of understanding that represents progress on the road to calling off the strike of the Metropolitano de Tenerife. The interlocution of the Cabildo in the figure of the director of Human Resources and Legal Advice, Lidia Pereira, seems to have had the desired effect. for now, the workers announce that they suspend the mobilizations of every Monday and Thursday at the door of the Cabildo, although they maintain the strikes between seven and nine in the morning during weekdays.
This meeting was attended by the members of the company committee and the strike committee, as well as the advisers appointed by the unions DC OO, UGT and Sepca. On behalf of the Cabildo de Tenerife, in addition to Pereira, two heads of service linked to the area participated: Olga Morales and Jorge Ribes. The dialogue of the Cabildo in this negotiation is intended to be able to redirect the existing conflict and establish channels of dialogue to try to reach an agreement, but also criteria and guidelines that the Metropolitan of Tenerife must comply with, as it is an entity dependent on the Island Corporation. This first meeting focused on the aspects that concern the workers and a work methodology was established to continue deepening the dialogue as well as a calendar of upcoming appointments.
Given the relevance of health and safety issues, it was agreed to create, within the framework of this negotiation, a commission for this specific area, in which representatives of the workers, the person in charge of security of Metropolitano de Tenerife, as well as personnel Technician of the Occupational Risk Prevention Service. The first meeting will be next day 30.
Likewise, it was proposed to analyze the structural needs of the workforce and the provision of services to study a first incorporation of troops destined to cover needs, the lack of which makes it unviable, on occasions, the performance of functions of the workers’ representatives and the use of union credit.
The meeting for these matters has been scheduled for April 10. On this date, it is expected to already have the new manager, Pedro Ribeiro, recently appointed, who would join the negotiation with the scheduled meeting schedule.
Suspension of files
Union representatives conveyed to the Cabildo their discontent over the disciplinary proceedings opened against workers in the course of the conflict and proposed their suspension. An approach that the insular Corporation agreed to consider in order to favor the negotiation.
The workers, for their part, will put an end to the demonstrations in the square in front of the Insular Palace and will convene an assembly to publicize the progress of the situation with the intervention of the Cabildoas well as submitting to a vote the suspension of the strike, the next day 31 in the confidence of the progress of the negotiations.
José Miguel Suárez, a veteran negotiator and adviser to Comisiones Obreras, values “a very productive meeting; there is a path started today (yesterday) and we hope to concretize it in future meetings ». It seems that the labor conflict of the tram is redirected.
