The mayor of Santa Cruz of TenerifeJosé Manuel Bermúdez, has presented this Friday the technical project of the “first public space themed in the Carnival”, a park located next to the House of Carnival whose budget reaches 3.2 million euros.
José Manuel Bermúdez has insisted that this initiative “is not about an infographic or study”, but about a technical project that needs to be put out to tender to start the bidding process “, which covers 8,426.15 square meters.
The objective of the City Council is to award the work before the end of 2023 and limit the execution of these tasks to a year and a half, which, Bermúdez has said, “will revalue the Casa del Carnaval and improve the connectivity of the downtown area with the Santos Ravine”.
The purpose will not only be to “create a meeting point” and promote unused spaces, “but to give value to our ravine”, highlighted José Manuel Bermúdez.
The project, carried out by the Technical Infrastructure and Works Service of the Santa Cruz City Council and presented by the architect José Ángel Afonso, will house Carnival-themed areas: a children’s area, with slides and sand spaces; a dog park and a youth and sports area.
The Casa del Carnaval and the park will improve connectivity through pedestrian connections with Antonio Nebrija and La Salle streets through the San Sebastián bridge, in addition to other accesses that will facilitate mobility and pedestrian traffic from the Tome Cano area to the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium and from the commercial area and center of Santa Cruz, the mayor has stated.
The report of the Insular Water Council for the connectivity of the canine park with the ravine is the document that is missing to finalize the technical project, an aspect on which the Councilor for Works and Infrastructures, Dámaso Arteaga, has said that “it would be an improvement, but it does not condition us”.
Although it is not in the medium-term objectives, the City Council hopes, “in the future”, to expand connectivity to the Viera y Clavijo park. The central area of the space will feature a “giant sardine”, as a symbol of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, inside which there will be slides and will be surrounded by different walkways for people with reduced mobility.
Behind this infrastructure there will be a temporary mural that will illustrate the works of local graffiti artists, as is already the case in Las Indias park, although it will also represent the annual theme of each year.
Another novelty of the project will be the decorative LED lighting that will be installed on the Galcerán bridge, to create “a focus of attraction” towards the area.
In addition to the mayor, Jose Manuel Bermúdez; the Councilor for Works and Infrastructures, Dámaso Arteaga and the project architect José Ángel Afonso, the councilor for the Salud-La Salle district, Carlos Tarife, was also present.
