SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Mobility area, has enabled the bus lane that connects Las Chumberas with the La Laguna Interchange so that it can be used by taxi drivers, as reported by the First Vice President and Island Councilor for Mobility, Enrique Arriaga , who explained that from the Cabildo they have been managing the administrative procedures and reports necessary for the authorization for some time.
Enrique Arriaga has indicated that with this alternative to the TF-5 “taxis will be able to reduce their travel times and provide a better service to users, especially when there are traffic jams.” In this way, we will continue promoting the use of public transport as an alternative to private vehicles,” he added.
Arriaga added that the intention is also to implement taxi access in the second phase of this bus lane, which will connect the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) and Las Chumberas”.
For his part, the insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, indicated that in this way taxis will be able to leave the TF-5 at the height of Las Chumberas and will access the Padre Anchieta roundabout, in La Laguna, avoiding the queues at those times when the TF-5 gets stuck in traffic.
León highlighted “the firm commitment made by the Cabildo for public transport, be it with buses or taxis, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and avoiding a further increase in the number of trips by private vehicles that create traffic jams”.
The president of Radio Taxi La Laguna, Francisco González, assured that for taxi drivers “this means avoiding traffic and therefore saving time and money, and above all offering a better service to customers.” For this reason, he appreciates the steps taken by Enrique Arriaga to carry out this initiative.
During the last night, from March 21 to 22, changes were made to the signs indicating this new access.
