The two buildings which will be built in Telde, Gran Canaria, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, totally equal, to concentrate the essential services of the Autonomous Community for citizen care 24 hours a day and seven days a weekas 012, 1-1-2 or telesocial assistance, will have a cost of €79.4 million, financed with european fundsand will house 1,100 employees that are now scattered in 18 properties, most of them rented.
The Canarian Government will initiate the bidding for the works of this macro project in a month and a half and foresees that both twin and sustainable properties, with 23,000 square meters of constructed area each, be finished in the second half of 2025.
The Ministers of Finance, Public Administrations and Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez, Julio Pérez and Blas Trujillo, respectively, together with the mayoress of Telde, Maria del Carmen Hernandezand the General Director of Assets and Contracts, Jose Julian Isturitz, presented this Tuesday the project of the two d bunkersand maximum security prepared to resist computer attacks or withstand natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions or earthquakes.
In fact, the Ministry of the Interior has classified the two buildings as critical infrastructurewhich implies a “highest category” security in its construction in the event of exceptional situations of a seismic and vulcanological nature, or those derived from adverse meteorological phenomena.
These buildings will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and heliports, to give a coordinated, effective and immediate response to critical situations that may occur on the Islands, as occurred with the pandemic or the eruption of the volcano on La Palma.
To deal with these works, the European resources of the React-EU, specifically 13.2 million euros, and 66.2 million from the operational program of the Feder 2021-2027. In total, European funds will finance 90% of the investment and the rest are own contributions from the Community derived from the co-financing of the Feder funds. “The project has been very well received by the community authorities to the point that we will present the buildings soon in Brussels“, affirmed the Minister of Finance, Román Rodríguez.
Characteristics
The Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) Menis-Ieoci obtained the best score to carry out the technical project of architecture, engineering, safety and health of thes Essential Services Buildings (ESE).
In Gran Canaria, it will be built in the Jinámar industrial estate, in Telde, on a plot of 21,550 square meters, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the La Gallega Urbanization, in a space of 22,700 square meters. The height of the buildings will be 28 meters with a constructed area of 23,000 square meters.
These two buildings will concentrate the Citizen Attention service 012 and the emergency control services 1-1-2, telecare, the health information service or medical transport, the Canarian Police, the fire brigade, the Emergency Group (GES ), Maritime Rescue and the patrimonial security of buildings. They will also house essential services such as the Cybercentre (which brings together the Autonomous Administration’s computer networks), the Data Processing Center and Corporate Security.
Fishing inspection and coasts
To these services will be added the Inspection of fishing, coasts, tunnels, traffic, the Involcan and the Red Cross. Román Rodríguez pointed out that they will be the addresses of these services, not that fire vehicles or the Canary Police will move to these properties. The goal is for there to be maximum coordination in any situation, both daily and in critical adverse phenomena.
Canarias will be one of the few communities that, like the Basque Country, Catalonia and Madrid, They already have this type of building, to respond to emergencies in a faster, more efficient and accessible way, highlighted the Minister of Finance.
The Government of the Canary Islands in these four years has put security at the center of its concerns, stressed Julio Pérez, who also stated that the Essential Services Buildings are more than justified on the islands due to their orography, weather, insularity and remoteness, and for being a tourist destination, visited every year by millions of travelers.
The mayoress of Telde expressed her satisfaction for the choice of her municipality as the headquarters, in a strategic place, in Jinámar, so it will be close to the airport and the GC-1 highway, and will have essential support services around it.
