trespassers, crazy devils, mocking, rompers and Retorciditos starred yesterday in the Encounter of murgas of Tenerife of the Carnival Los Cristianos International. Satire and humor culminated the first weekend of this party, which began at 5:00 p.m. with the Carnival Parade, one of the events with the greatest beach flavor with local groups as a claim. The tour began outside the Los Cristianos Cultural Center and ended in La Pescadora square, in the bay.
The Los Cristianos Carnival began last Friday, with the opening of an exhibition by the photographer Laly gonzalez at the Cultural Center of Los Cristianos, where it will remain until March 31. On Saturday, the Golden Mile of Playa de the Americas hosted the Annunciator Cavalcade after its suspension since 2020, due to the state of alarm. More than 1,100 people attended including comparsas, groups, choreographic groups and typical characters.
The carnival party is celebrated under the theme of Japan, with the poster that the illustrator and graphic designer Nareme Melián had prepared for the Carnival of the year 2020.
The beach is considered the second most important Carnival in Tenerife, after the one in Santa Cruz, taking into account that it registers a total influx of 125,000 people, 20,000 of them during the Day Carnival. To this is added an economic return to the business fabric of the municipality that is estimated at more than six million euros, which reflects its relevance.
The most popular act, the Carnival of the Day, will take place on Saturday and will have two stages
The International Carnival of Los Cristianos continues this week with a program that includes, tomorrow, the exhibition and troupe contest in the same enclosure, located in front of the Valdés Center building. On Wednesday the Festival of Choreographic Groups will take place and on Thursday, both the Dance for the Elderly –in the central patio of the Los Cristianos Cultural Center– and the Great Carnival Show, in front of the Valdés Center.
On Friday the Drag Night of the Los Cristianos International Carnival will be held, between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., which will give way to a dance enlivened by orchestras. In parallel, the music will be in an area dedicated to local DJs.
The Los Cristianos Day Carnival will take place on Saturday, which will have two stages: one, dedicated to the family, located in La Pescadora square, where there will be performances, a costume contest, workshops or parades; and another, with national and international artists located in the central area.
That same day the development of the VII Beach Route is planned, which will run from the Plaza de La Pescadora and will have two different areas for the music of orchestras and DJs. The latter will be located in the Plaza del Pescador, on the esplanade outside the cultural center.
On Sunday the Gran Coso Apotheosis of the Carnival will take place, which will begin at the Paloma Beach Apartments and will run to the Cultural Center of Los Cristianos. Both the Burial of the Sardine (in the Plaza del Pescador) and the DJ area are reserved for Monday, events that will put an end to the International Carnival of Los Cristianos 2023.
