The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Autonomous Organization for Festivals and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), opened last Friday, the 17th, the registration deadlines to participate in the different contests and events planned in the programming of the Festivals of May 2023.

For the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, “the May Fiestas are not only an appointment with tradition and vernacular culture, but also with the socioeconomic dynamism of Santa Cruz de Tenerife”, which is why he encourages “active participation in a series of contests that connect different generations of chicharreros”.

Cabello highlighted “the latent illusion that is palpable in the atmosphere to continue enjoying the activity in the streets and squares of the capital”, stating that the forecasts “indicate that, during the founding festivities, the city will receive thousands of visitors who will be able to participate in the more than one hundred events planned between April 21 and May 30, Canary Islands Day”.

On this occasion, the main novelty is the celebration of the Contest-Exhibition of Traditional Canarian Decoration of Balconies. Although during the confinement period a virtual modality was carried out, on this occasion the first face-to-face edition takes place. The different compositions will be visited by the jury on May 3 and from the street, so only balconies located at a maximum height of 9 meters are allowed to participate. The registration period for this contest will be until April 9.

The registration of the candidates for Queen of the Fiestas de Mayo, in its adult modality, may also be formalized from today, with the maximum deadline being April 9. Up to a total of 35 applicants may present themselves to be part of the gala for the election of the adult queen of the Fiestas de Mayo scheduled for Friday, April 28, on the stage located in Plaza de la Candelaria.

For their part, applicants for the Children’s Magician and Magician Election Gala may also register between March 17 and April 9, both inclusive; and up to a maximum of 20 candidates in the male and female categories. The participants will be between the ages of five and ten, and this show will be held on Saturday, April 29.

People and groups interested in taking part in the XV Contest-Exhibition of school crosses with recycled materials, in the Contest of Crosses with natural flowers through the different neighborhoods of the city, or in the Artistic Exhibition of flower crosses on the Rambla de Santa Cruz, whose celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3; You can also register until April 9.

To participate in the XLVI Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants, and Traditional and Contemporary Canarian Crafts, and the Canarian Gastronomic Crafts Exhibition, which will take place from May 1 to 7 in the García Sanabria Park, you can formalize your registration until May 9. April.

People who want to take part in the Children’s Drawing and Painting Contest, framed in the XLVI Regional Exhibition of Flowers and Plants, may register from May 1 to 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the OAFAR stand located in the own park. The theme of this edition is ‘A sculpture from the García Sanabria park’.

The registration period for the Typical Food Contest will remain open until April 9, with the culinary contest taking place on Tuesday, May 30, in the surroundings of the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena.

Regarding the authorization of the public domain for the installation of traditional balloon, nougat, sweet and derivative stands, in different locations in the city, registration to participate will be between March 17 and April 9.

People, groups and institutions interested in participating in any of the contests may formalize it at the Entry Register of the Electronic Headquarters and at the offices of the Autonomous Organization for Festivals and Recreational Activities OAFAR, located at number 7 Antonio Domínguez street.
