Arona prepares a comprehensive transformation of the tourist axis that make up Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas through a series of actions that focus on three pillars: the green transition, digitization and competitiveness of the destination, which will improve aspects such as sustainable mobility, the environment and energy efficiency.
Arona Illusiona proposes a tourism development model that goes beyond sun and sand, with actions such as the comprehensive reform of Paseo de Las Vistas, which already has a project and budget from the Cabildo (3.6 million euros) or the regeneration of Los Tarajales beach, one of the areas with the greatest value and potential in Los Cristianos, which has suffered significant environmental degradation in recent decades and which already has a game of two million euros approved by the central government and included in the General State Budget of 2022.
The national Executive has also approved a fund of five million euros for the burying of Chayofita avenue, a measure that the Arona City Council has been demanding for years, understanding that it is the solution to traffic jams at the entrance and exit of Los Cristianos, since it would alleviate the movement of vehicles that circulate between the port and the TF-1 motorway.
Another of the ambitious measures announced by the Aronero government group is the urban “sponge” of the golden mile towards the adjacent streets, endorsed by the project executed in 2015 that allowed the recovery of a public space through the semi-pedestrianization of the avenue with walking areas and shadows. The City Council plans to expand the experience of the golden mile to other nearby streets.
LOW EMISSIONS ZONE
This transformation of the surroundings of this central place in Playa de Las Américas connects with the implementation of the Low Emission Zone (ZBE), which will be delimited from Antonio Domínguez avenue to the seafront. The LEZ will reduce saturation and vehicle noise and improve accessibility, committing to sustainable mobility and reducing polluting emissions.
The Low Emission Zone will include an intermodal interchange, located in the surroundings of the Antonio Domínguez stadium, which will have underground public parking. It will also house public transport stops and bicycles for rent, as well as charging points for electric vehicles. The Arona Ilusiona plan contemplates the creation of a network of cycle lanes, which will have the new interchange as its starting point and will reach Los Cristianos, specifically, the area known as El Rincón, in the vicinity of Los Tarajales. On the other hand, running lovers will have a specific circuit around the Las Américas golf course.
The project will also regenerate two urban parks. One in Los Cristianos, between Amsterdam avenue and Berna street, and a second in the quadrangle formed by Antonio Domínguez, Las Américas, Havana avenues and Luis Díaz de Lozada street.
Finally, in terms of digital transition, Arona Ilusiona contains a business innovation and digitization plan to support SMEs in the municipality in their digital transformation and will implement 150 Wi-Fi access points, as well as the creation of smart pedestrian routes and tourist signage.
