SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Platform for People Affected by the Cumbre Vieja Volcano 2021, with the slogan ‘To the streets! They are stealing our lives’, has called a new protest meeting for this Sunday, March 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., this time in the municipality of El Paso, at the Municipal Sports Center, located next to the LP-3 general highway, on Sericícola street.
The convening group makes a new appeal to the entire La Palma society and, especially, to the 7,000 people directly affected by this catastrophe, to support this act of protest, which -except for the February parenthesis coinciding with Carnival celebrations- is coming celebrating month by month every day 19, being the date on which the eruptive process began, in September 2021.
On this occasion, this act of protest takes place when the draft of the Canarian Government’s decree law for the reconstruction of homes is already known, to which the platform has been preparing allegations for weeks, considering that it does not respond to the real needs of those affected, nor the solutions proposed by the Administration, neither in time nor in financing.
They point out that the draft of the decree law for land concentration aimed at the reconstruction of destroyed farms has also just been published, a document that will also be examined by the Platform to present the appropriate allegations.
Among the demands of this concentration is that of a law of the territory with a financial record that allows an effective, fair and rapid recovery of the thousands of victims and the affected area, since they consider that the current regulations are a hindrance to be able to move forward towards that goal.
They also request that the compensation be set at the fair price of the value that the properties had before the eruption and that compensation be paid in accordance with current economic circumstances.
They also demand more direct aid to farmers, a reconstruction plan for all types of homes (not only the first residences) and the creation of a consortium between public administrations with broad representation of those affected.
They also demand that the regional government pay rent aid on a monthly basis and not with the unbearable delays of between 4 and 7 months, as well as that the aid of 30,000 euros be paid at once for loss of habitual residence, which have been started to take effect by droppers more than a year after they were announced.
