La Placita, recently baptized as Plaza Comparsa Los Cariocas, received nearly a hundred residents of Valleseco yesterday to address the transformation that the town’s coastline is undergoing. The Platform in Defense of the Valleseco Beach summoned its neighbors to talk, among other matters, about the authorization given by the City Council so that dogs can access the Acapulco beacha measure that was widely rejected by the attendees.

As Javier González, in charge of the Platform, explained, “the majority of the residents reject the use of this beach for dogs, which is very small, when there are larger ones in other places.” Some of the interventions suggested, for example, that the beach next to the Maritime Park be conditioned.

Regarding the transformation of the coastline, although the change it has undergone was valued, the attendees expressed their concern about the execution of the Sol y Sombra project in phases, which could lead to its being left unfinished.

The general feeling of the attendees is that actions are being carried out on a coastline for which they have fought for years and about which, now, they are not consulted or even informed. This has led them to revalidate their confidence in the Platform so that it can serve as a spokesperson with the administrations. A discussion that has already begun, urging the Port Authority to give up the jetty so that the sports boats that have been in the area all their lives can continue to be there.
