SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of Citizen Participation, will hold next Tuesday, March 21, the session with which the preparation phase of the Citizen Participation Regulations ends, a process in which the agents have taken part individuals and individuals from the municipality for the joint drafting of this document.
Once the Regulation has been supervised by the technical and legal area of the Consistory, next Tuesday morning the document will be presented at a follow-up meeting to the representatives of all the political forces of the City Council. Subsequently, at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapter House of the old Santo Domingo Convent, the session will take place in which it will be presented to the citizen entities, as the last step before being raised to the plenary for final approval. The intention of the area is that the document can be debated in the next plenary session in April.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, wanted to recall that this initiative began during the covid-19 crisis, when “from the La Laguna City Council we made an effort to find safe spaces for conversation and dialogue, in which the neighbors and residents of the municipality were able to participate, regardless of their circumstances, both individually and as part of any group,” he added.
“This process is an important advance in the strengthening of citizen participation and participatory democracy in our municipality because after 30 years it is more than necessary to update and adapt the regulations to the current reality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, which responds to all the changes that have taken place throughout these three decades”, stressed the mayor.
For her part, the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Yaiza López Landi, explained that “a participation methodology adapted through a meticulous process, detailed throughout 27 work sessions in which 192 people collaborated, representatives of associations, groups, neighbors and neighbors. In addition, representatives of entities registered in the general process were added, of which 101 were part of the work by commissions”.
“From the Consistory we appreciate the involvement and dedication of the people who have enriched the Citizen Participation Regulation. This will be a reviewable document that will attend to the requests and changes of the citizenry,” Landi said.
Throughout this process, collaborative work committees were held in charge of reviewing and proposing regulations. In the same way, training workshops on digital tools were carried out, on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), online and face-to-face sessions, debates with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), the Government of the Canary Islands, the councils and other town halls, as well as specific meetings with the different political parties. In addition, email conversations and informative chats were held to ensure fluid and effective communication between the participants.
