SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Police has arrested a 36-year-old man, with a police record, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage by causing 19 fires in garbage containers in the municipality of Los Realejos, being admitted to preventive detention.
Last February, in the space of a week, a series of acts of vandalism took place in Los Realejos consisting of the repeated burning of garbage containers, which generated insecurity among the residents.
All the fires occurred within the urban area, between blocks of flats and vehicles, with the consequent risk of spreading to cars and homes attached to the containers. In one of the cases, a house even had to be evicted as a result of the fire.
The National Police, with the collaboration of the Local Police, identified a 36-year-old man, who was found on several occasions near the scene of the events, being able to attribute the events to him. In total, 19 garbage containers were set on fire, with an estimated total economic damage of more than 8,500 euros.
The national police officers proceeded to arrest him and, once he was brought before the competent judicial authority, he was placed in pretrial detention.
