SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The State security forces and bodies were aware during 2022 of a total of 95,642 criminal offenses in the Canary Islands, almost the same figure as in 2019, the reference year as it was the last year not affected by the restrictions imposed to deal with the covid pandemic. -19, when 95,639 offenses were recorded, according to the Crime Balance published today, Friday, on the website of the Ministry of the Interior.

Of the number of criminal offenses registered on the islands in 2022, a total of 81,803 (85.5%) correspond to the category of conventional crime, which includes all forms of crime not committed in cyberspace and which are reduced by 5, 8 percent over 2019.

For its part, cybercrime registers a total of 13,839 criminal offenses recorded in the archipelago (14.5%), data that represents an increase of 56.5 percent over 2019.

Therefore, in 2022, compared to 2019, the total crime registered by the State security forces and bodies on the islands has barely grown, since that year only three more cases were registered than in 2022.

CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY FALL

The figures for conventional crime registered in 2022 in the Canary Islands are supported, among other factors, by the drop in crimes against property, which represent 39.7 percent of the total in this category and which, as a whole, decreased by one 10 percent compared to 2019.

Specifically, robberies with violence or intimidation, 1,617 cases registered in 2022, increased by 5.3 percent over the same period in 2019. Robberies with force at homes, establishments and other facilities (3,655 cases in 2022) decreased by -14 .9 percent over 2019. Thefts (23,630 cases in 2022) decreased by 9.5 percent over 2019. And vehicle thefts (1,248 made compared to 1,295 in 2019) decreased by 3.6 percent.

On the other hand, crimes against sexual freedom (excluding those computed online) maintain the trend of strong increase that began in 2014. Compared to 2019 (1,556 registered cases), last year a total of 2,104 were registered in the Canary Islands. crimes, an increase of 35.2 percent.

This increase must be related, in part, to the active policies to raise awareness and reduce social tolerance of this type of crime, which translates into a greater willingness of victims to report and reduces existing levels of underreporting. in these criminal types.

Drug trafficking crimes are also growing, 21.7 percent compared to 2019, going from 603 reported incidents that year to 734 registered in 2022, an increase closely linked to the actions of security forces and bodies within the framework of specific devices, given that very few complaints are made in this criminal phenomenon. This indicator is, therefore, actually an index of the growing police activity against this type of crime.

CYBER CRIME

Regarding cybercrime, the indicator of computer fraud (11,851 crimes, 85.6 percent of all cybercrime and 12.3 percent of all crime registered up to December 2022) shows an increase of 62.7 percent. percent over the same period in 2019.

The rest of the cybercrimes, 1,988 registered last year, experienced a growth of 27.8 percent compared to the 1,555 recorded in 2019.
