SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the regional government, Manuel Domínguez, has denounced the “abandonment” suffered by La Palma by the central and regional governments, “which have left the Island Council alone in the hard task to rebuild the Island and in the care that the citizens affected by the recent volcanic eruption deserve.
The leader of the popular in the Archipelago has criticized the lack of involvement of the regional Executive to compensate for the damage caused by the volcano and to demand that the Government of Spain “comply with its responsibility” to guarantee the recovery of the Island.
This is how Domínguez expressed himself at a press conference in Santa Cruz de La Palma, held after a meeting with the management committee of the Popular Group in the Senate, in which the spokesman for the formation in the Upper House, Javier Maroto, participated; the president of the Cabildo and the PP on the Island, Mariano Zapata; and the regional senator and candidate for Mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona.
The popular leader regretted that President Ángel Víctor Torres “has admitted without raising his voice” that the Sánchez government has its sights set on other parts of the country’s geography, “forgetting the needs and reality of palmeros.” “It is also inadmissible that the regional Executive, which has the largest budget in history, has not responded to an emergency situation that mortgages the present and future of La Palma.”
Lastly, Manuel Domínguez recalled the commitment of the Popular Party, recently announced by its national leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to promote a comprehensive multi-year recovery plan for La Palma, with a maximum budget of 1,000 million euros, and a law of volcanoes.
Finally, the regional senator and candidate for mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona, indicated that “in La Palma all the candidates, headed by our insular president, are going to work tirelessly with the sole objective of ensuring that Zapata continues being the president of the Cabildo, Manuel Domínguez is the next president of the Canary Islands, and Alberto Núñez Feijóo arrives at La Moncloa”.
