The Cabildo de Tenerife has approved in the Governing Council the regulatory bases and the call for aid to boost commercial activity in the island’s urban centers. The budget for this new call for grants amounts to 150,000 euros, expandable to another 100,000 more.
The Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, recalls that through these subsidies, which will be awarded by competitive competition, the aim is to continue improving the competitiveness of the commercial fabric, one of the sectors with the most weight in the generation employment and economic activity on the island.
“The activity of the island’s urban centers cannot be understood without local and nearby commerce. They are the main economic engine. That is why it is important to continue supporting the development of initiatives that increase their attractiveness and guarantee the influx of consumers in the different open commercial areas of Tenerife”, added Carmen Luz Baso.
Among the eligible actions are the implementation of additional services that improve the competitiveness of the area, activities that promote social and environmental sustainable consumption and that improve the experience of consumers in the municipality, as well as other revitalization initiatives such as conferences, seminars or the organization of tapa routes.
Both island councils and business associations, federations and confederations may apply for this aid.
The amount of the subsidy may not exceed 60% of the total cost of the project. The number of businesses that benefit from the project, the duration of the activity or revitalization action that is carried out and the number of municipalities that get involved.
The deadline for submitting applications will be 20 calendar days to compute from the day after the population of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
There are currently a total of 43 open commercial areas spread throughout the insular geography. All municipalities have at least one of these sales spaces, but some add up to three of them, as is the case in the capital of Tenerife.
According to the data provided by the Island Council, the hotel and restaurant businesses are the ones with the greatest presence in these spaces, followed by shops, among which fashion stores predominate, followed by bazaars, bookstores, stationery stores and furniture stores. and home.
