The project for the rehabilitation of the Casa de Los Soler (17th century), in Vilaflor de Chasna, will go out to tender before the summer. This was stated by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, together with the mayoress, Agustina Beltrán, during a visit to the municipality. The meeting allowed the authorities to advance in other planned actions, with the island’s collaboration, in terms of employment and the improvement of public services.
Pedro Martín highlighted “the impulse given by the Cabildo to the project to rehabilitate this property, an emblematic house not only for the municipality, but for the entire southern region of Tenerife and the island. The president defended that the Casa de los Soler is “probably one of the most important exponents of the island’s historical heritage.” Along these lines, he also highlighted that the project to be carried out “contemplates the rehabilitation of the original movable property of the house, thus restoring an important ethnographic and patrimonial value to the new use that will be given to it.”
Once the improvement and conditioning works have been completed, the forecast is to convert this space into an ecomuseum to value the traditions and customs of Canary Islands and to make it a reference space at the cultural and patrimonial level on the Island, which contributes to the social and economic revitalization in the municipality and the generation of employment. The space will house social and cultural revitalization activities, workshops and exhibitions, among other uses, to promote Canarian culture, history and traditions.
Agustina Beltrán thanked the insular president, Pedro Martín, for “this good news” since “finally this project, which has taken so long over time, is seeing the light and shortly the tender for these works will begin, which we consider to be very important for the entire region.
At the back of Los Soler’s house is the so-called Huerta Grande, a space acquired by the Vilaflor City Council with financing from the Cabildo de Tenerife. A municipal employment project called La Huerta Grande EcoRural is currently being developed on this surface. This is an initiative that promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and, for this, they have hired 13 people for a period of nine months to develop activities that promote the green areas of the municipality, such as organic farming or sustainable tourism.
This project is the result of the inclusion of the Vilaflor de Chasna City Council in the Municipal Employment Program launched by the Employment, Socioeconomic Development and External Action area of the Cabildo de Tenerife, directed by Carmen Luz Baso.
The visit to Vilaflor made it possible to learn about other improvement actions promoted with the island’s collaboration in basic public services for the well-being of citizens. The authorities visited the section of La Escalona where an intervention is being considered to improve pedestrian safety in the area. “Cabildo and Vilaflor City Council are working to find a solution in order to establish safety and protection measures for pedestrians.” The work also aims to “guarantee fluid traffic for all those who cross this area, especially during the early hours of the morning, who are usually schoolchildren on their way to their educational centers,” said the president, Pedro Martín.
