The Lemus Bookstorethe popular establishment of The lagooncommemorates its 50th anniversary this month with a varied agenda of literary presentations, book signings, colloquiums and meetings with authors that will culminate on the 17th with an institutional act at the bookstore located on Avenida Trinidad.
The Lemus Bookstore was founded in 1973 as a family initiative that had its first store in the Heraclio Sanchez street next to the University of La Laguna. “A couple of years later, a new, larger store was inaugurated located on the same street, which expanded the offer with literature of all genres and a greater number of books on all subjects, both for schools, institutes and universities, as well as for individuals. and professionals”, they point out from the bookstore itself.
In the year 2003 Lemus opens a new premises located at the beginning of the Trinity Avenue which becomes the largest technical bookstore on the island and the new cultural space.
Francisco Lemus, owner, was “excited” at the ceremony held by the La Laguna City Council for such a special commemoration: “I can only thank everyone for their words. From heart thank you”.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, mayor of La Laguna, has reiterated that the Lemus Bookstore is the “essence” of La Laguna: “50 years alongside culture and the city. It is one of the best shops in this city. It is a space that is firmly committed to local and national authors. Talking about Lemus is talking about the history of this city”.
Events and celebrations of the Lemus Bookstore
The activities begin today, Monday March 13, when an informative meeting with journalists on everything related to this celebration is also scheduled to take place. The writer Manuel Vilas (Huesca, 1962), author of Ordesaa novel about the relationship between parents and children in autobiographical format, which since its publication in 2018 has been translated into more than 20 languages, will sign copies of his works starting at 6:00 p.m.
Subsequently, the finalist for the Premio Planeta in 2019 with Happinessand winner of this year’s Nadal Award for his novel Uswill participate in a meeting with Canarian authors coordinated by the writer Pablo Martín Carbajal.
For the following day, also from 6:00 p.m., the presentation and signing of copies of the comic has been scheduled Juan Negrin.
