Let the DJs choose the music… once again. We asked several of the diyeis that are part of the Candelaria Viva 90+ Music Beer Fest for their essential song from the 90s. Who better than them to choose the songs they consider essential from a decade that marked the popularization of dance music.
Let’s go with one of the headliners. DJ Jonay, who elaborates here next door, gives a surprising answer: «All that she wants from Ace of Base. It’s a fucking great song, a hit, in the 90s that song changed many things. I could talk to you about any topic of my vibe but I prefer that one and whenever I play, I play it». La Maldita pulls from a great classic: “Show me Love, by Robin S, because the ‘oldskool’ has marked us all,” he highlights. DJ Rayco, who lives life in the booths, recalls an important memory for him: «Insomnia, by Faithless, with whom we opened the session at Nooctúa (mythical club in the north of Tenerife) with a voiceover, brings back great memories». Tana Sandoval opts for two artists who also marked the 90s: «MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, are two that caught my attention due to music, obviously Michael Jackson was the one that attracted me the most but these two had the hip-hop vibe that called me the most. the attention”. Kruger, who marked an era in the matinees of the Ku nightclub in the early nineties, is something more elaborate: «My essential theme of that time is Leftfield’s, Not Forgotten, a classic that I owe a lot to him for his infinite mixes that I have. with him, acapellas and so on». Deepak finds it difficult to opt for one: «There are many songs from the 90s that are essential to me, from the ‘old skool’ I prefer the 40 Miles by Congress because it is a piano that evokes many sensations». He also quotes Livin Joy’s Dreamer.
We caught Master Chic off guard: «Soon, the first one that comes to mind is the one by C+C Music Factory, Gonna make you sweat, it is a total icon, a memory of the Kü matinees with the people (where he was the first resident DJ), is the theme that I see as the most symbolic of that time».
And Juana La Cubana is missing, that is, the author of these lines. The 90s was when I began to play seriously with my friend Andrés Morales, and a whole decade that I lived playing in festivals in the Dinacord orchestra. I like themes that merge the two worlds, like El tiburón by Proyecto Uno, but especially Guallando by Fulanito. All this and more, next week in Candelaria, Tenerife.
