What at first seemed like a quick job to fix a sinkhole that ended up swallowing a carhas become a channeling project that affects the entire street Saint Gemma Galganiin the neighborhood of La Candelaria, in La Cuesta.
It was last September when a heavy episode of rain caused the collapse of the track, a fact that, as confirmed yesterday in plenary session by the Councilor for Public Services and Works, José Manuel Hernández, could have turned into a tragedy if the foundations of the building that was also affected would have given way to the force of the water. And it is that the collapse was produced by the poor execution of the channeling of the Macario ravine.
The mayor, who appeared at the request of CC, explained the details of a work that, if all goes well, will be ready in May, after an investment of 1.8 million, of which they have already been carried out on 30 %. “The channeling point had to be moved from where the road sank to the Macario ravine, much more complex than expected, so the work has ended up affecting the entire street,” acknowledged the mayor.
Hernández explained that “the rainwater channeling ended up collapsing, with flooded storage rooms in the affected building, causing the mismatch of the track.” The force with which the water fell from La Higuerita could have destabilized the building, the mayor admitted. The execution by the emergency route of the new channeling, which will connect to the Macario ravine at the height of the La Candelaria square, is within the estimated period of seven months.
Regarding patrimonial responsibility, Hernández advanced that the corresponding files are already being processed, with special attention to that of the owner of the vehicle that engulfed the street.
The rest of the plenary session proceeded quickly, so much so that it ended after six in the afternoon. This speed is explained by the high level of agreement, with up to seven institutional motions, including the study of the IBI bonus for developable land in the municipality.
The motion that the mayor of Urban Planning, Santiago Pérez, was going to defend, to recover the city’s historical shield in the corporate image of the City Council, and against which United We Can had pronounced, was finally withdrawn when Pérez did not attend the plenary session. The councilor responsible for the Autonomous Sports Organization (OAD), Idaira Afonso, appeared at the request of Cs to report on the return of 58,000 euros to the Cabildo since the projects to provide calisthenics circuits at different points in the municipality were not carried out.
Afonso recognized the impossibility of executing an agreement that had been signed in 2018, and announced that the OAD is assuming the project with the aim that this year each district can have at least one space for calisthenics. He also announced that, starting this Monday, work will begin on the Islas Canarias and Montaña de Taco pavilions.
