The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court has confirmed this Friday, March 10, the reviewable permanent prison sentence, plus another 39 years in prisonimposed by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands to Thomas Handrick for the treacherous murder of his wife and one of his 10-year-old children at the time of the facts, and for the attempted murder of his other son, 7 years old, who managed to flee after the crimes of his mother and brother. The events occurred on the morning of April 23, 2019 in an isolated area near a cave in Adeje, Tenerife.
The Supreme dismisses in its entirety the appeal filed by the defendant against the sentence of the Canary Islands Supreme Court, which confirmed the sentences established by the Court of Tenerife, permanent reviewable prison for the treacherous murder of the 10-year-old boy, 23 years in prison for that of the woman, and 16 years for the attempted murder of the 7-year-old boy. It confirms that in all three crimes there was an aggravating circumstance of treachery as well as that of kinship.
The facts
On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, The couple and their two children went out in the morning to take a walk through the La Quinta village in the direction of the Teide National Park, in the highlands of Adeje.
Seeing his father beating his mother and brother, the youngest of the sons ran away. Disoriented, he was located in the afternoon by a neighbor on the highway from La Quinta to Las Moraditas.
Not knowing his language, the woman took him to a friend who could translate for him and, when they understood that the father had hit them, they took him to the local police.
At seven in the afternoon of that same day, Thomas Handrick was arrested by the Civil Guard in the house in Adeje that he had bought two years before.
Location
The lifeless bodies of Silvia, the murderer’s wife, and her eldest son were located the next day, April 24, 2019, in the Inside a cave near the Hoyo del Agua area.
