The LGTBI island table is broken with the march of eight of the nine groups

The LGTBI island table It is broken with the march of eight of the nine groups that made it up. His representatives made this decision effective yesterday in the registry of the council. They had threatened to abandon it if the insular institution did not retract what they understood to be support with public money for “trans-exclusionary hate speech”. Of that they accuse some of the speakers of the women and sport forum, held on the 3rd and 4th at the Auditorio de Tenerife. In addition, they will notify the regional and state governments to activate the sanctioning regime that contemplates the trans law approved just a few days ago. Both with respect to the protagonists and the island institution as responsible “jointly and subsidiary”.

The LGBTI and Trans entities of the Island report that, with this action, “we simply comply with what was announced.” They maintain that in the III Women and Sport State Congress, whose celebration was supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife, there were “hate speeches”. They denounce that “the message that trans women are biological men who self-identify” was conveyed. Also that “trans claims are based on an ideology that seeks to erase women.” In addition to “the dissemination of hoaxes about the recently approved legislative framework without any scientific basis.” Fran Baute, from Diversas, served as spokesperson.

He affirmed that the trans laws “cannot be a wet paper” or “serve to presume as the Cabildo of being a reference outside the Island.” He also indicated that the groups cannot continue in a participation table of the Cabildo de Tenerife because “it would be to be accomplices of the institutional support for transphobia.” He summed up: “Free speech is not freedom of aggression.” «My existence is not a debate, I am a trans woman and I have the right to be part of the sport; Enough already, we exist and we have rights». It was the strong message from Nayara Martínez González, from the Libertrans Association. For his part, Yelko Fernández, a trans man and president of Libertrans, called attention to the fact that only trans women were attacked in Congress: “They never mentioned the trans man who does fit into sport and does no harm to nobody; It is women who are bad, what a causality », he lamented, and warned that they are not going to take a step back.

a serious mistake

In the opinion of the entities, “the Cabildo has made a serious mistake” by organizing a debate of these characteristics without counting on the leading entities in addressing these realities on the Island. Summary that it is “a betrayal” that “causes damage “to trans and intersex people, who” are already in a serious situation of vulnerability. They also regret “the lack of vision of the island political leaders”, especially the Minister of Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta who, “despite having been notified in sufficient time, they were not able to meet the requests of the groups to redirect that debate. The associations demand “forceful measures” from the Minister of Social Action, Marián Franquet and Gugliotta, to “repair the damage caused to trans people.” They announce that, if they are not adopted before March 31, International Day of Transgender Visibility, they will have no choice but to “demand the resignation of both political leaders.” This will be a key day in the conflict because the complainants make it clear that “if they do not rectify and stand out, we will not participate in official acts and we will organize alternative and consensual ones.”

Lastly, the entities are grateful for the support they have received from LGBTIQ+ and feminist groups throughout the country. The statement is signed by Diversas Canarias, Chrysallis Canarias, Libertrans, Canarypride, Transboys, Caminar Intersex, Transwoman and Aperttura. Only Efecto Puerto did not sign the resignation to the LGTBI Island Roundtable. Nauzet Gugliotta, Minister of Diversity, was conciliatory yesterday, despite the criticism. He regretted the decision, which he respects, to leave the Insular Table and clarified that “we maintain all means of communication and we have open arms for them.” He valued “four years of projects and work.” He acknowledges that “a stage is closing” but maintains his support for diversity and leaves the door open to redirect the situation.
