In Canary Islandsas in other towns in Spain, the Easter It is a period of great devotion, full of acts and events linked to traditional religious celebrations. They are many tourists who decide to travel to the Archipelagoattracted not only by the leisure offer, but also by the good climate and the natural and cultural attractions of the Islands.
in Tenerife
To this, we must add that each town has its own way of celebrating Easter. For example in Tenerife the displays of fervor are grandiloquent, being the island that organizes the most celebrations, having in La Laguna the main focus of activitysince through its streets you can experience the most spectacular processions of the Island.
The most outstanding day is Holy Thursday, with the tour that the Christ of the Lagoon from its church located in the square of the same name to the Church of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, better known as the Cathedral of La Laguna. Aguere, as this city is also known, has an urban layout from the 16th century that invites you to discover different heritage jewels in its pedestrian streets, such as the Church of Our Lady of La Concepcion, with its lookout tower.
Without leaving Tenerife, mention must be made of Holy Week in the orotava, in the northern zone, which is one of the most important on the island. The people of Orotava have managed to preserve the tradition for centuries and it has a varied catalog of carvings of great artistic interest: Crucified from the Church of La Concepción, the Nazarene from Santo Domingo or the Christ tied to the Column of the Parish of San Juan Bautista.
The center of the Villa is truly spectacular and has been declared a Historic Site. As main enclaves we must underline the Hijuela del Botánico -a garden with different tropical species from South America, Central Africa and Australia- or the Victoria Gardens.
In Gran Canaria
For his part, in Gran Canariais telde one of the places of reference in Holy Week. It is one of the municipalities with a wider tourist offersince it has from archaeological heritage, with hundreds of sites with aboriginal remainsas with a nourished religious and historical heritage -beautiful colonial houses- and a coastline with Beaches wonderful as Hoya dle Pozo, Melenara, Tufia and La Garita. In this last enclave, the presence of a ‘bufadero’ stands out, which is a crack in the ground, into which the waves of the sea enter and, when they collide, throw the water towards the sky.
As far as religious celebrations are concerned, everything is centered on the Basilica of Saint John the Baptistespecially on Good Friday, when the most outstanding processions dedicated to El Señor Preacher, the Holy Christ carrying the Cross and the Holy Christ of Agony take place.
in lanzarote
In Lanzarotethe capital, Reefis one of the places to visit, since it is celebrated there the procession of the Lord of the Burritawith which the festive periods begin, which continue on Holy Thursday, when the Via Crucis takes place, and on Good Friday, with the processions of the Holy Burial and Soledad.
In Arrecife there are other points that must be visited such as the San Ginés Puddle -consists of a sea inlet that was the origin of the first nucleus of fishermen on the Island-; just like him St. Gabriel’s Castle and that of San José, among others.

Finally, it is a must visit, The Palm. The processions of Holy Week palm trees have great artistic valuesince they are examples of flamenco art on the island. In the capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, an extensive program of activities is organized, although we must also highlight the festivities in the municipality of Tijarafe, in which traditions have been reflected for more than of 450 years.
As points of interest, we must highlight the prois of candlemas -hidden in a euva-; the Jurdo Viewpoint or the Roque Palmero, among others.
