SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Turismo de Canarias is promoted at the ITB Berlin to recover one hundred percent of the German tourist, which is very beneficial for the destination since both their travel expenses and their stay are greater than those of the rest.
This was explained by the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, during the inauguration of the archipelago’s stand at the most important tourism fair in the world.
“We are going to focus on attracting German visitors and achieving a full recovery of this market, the second most important for the islands, which is of great interest to us as it helps us achieve our goal of growing in turnover rather than in number of tourists” , explained the counselor during the event, which was also attended by public representatives from the eight islands and more than a hundred businessmen from the Canary Islands.
Castilla recalled that the German tourist represents important values for the destination for various reasons, including the fact that their average stay on the islands is longer than average, with 11.7 days compared to 9.24 days for the rest, and because they spend the second higher average expenditure per tourist and trip, with 1,489 euros, above the average 1,314 euros and only below the Nordic tourists (1,593 euros).
The German market is responsible for 18.1% of the tourist turnover and 15.9% of the total number of foreign visitors to the islands, according to a note from the Ministry.
In addition, these tourists play an important role in promoting the idiosyncrasy and uniqueness of the tourist experience offered by the destination, since they like to explore the island on their own (52.6%), taste Canarian gastronomy (32, 4%), go hiking (19.6%) and the youngest love to do water activities.
“At no time did we forget the relevance of this market and we are going to work to recover it 100%, especially now that travel demands are beginning to improve,” said the counselor, who referred to the latest study by ADAC (the most Europe and which also participates in the tourist industry), called ‘This is how the Germans want to travel after three years of crisis’.
This report concludes that the travel behavior of Germans is normalizing and highlights some of the changes that have arisen after the pandemic, such as the fact that security is an important element when making a reservation and that 56% prioritize standards of hygiene of the destination they choose.
“In this regard, the Canary Islands not only have all the European standards, but also the image that we offered as a safe and reliable destination throughout the health crisis is indisputable,” Castilla explained.
In addition, in the document it is also glimpsed that the intact nature in the destination is the second most important factor for the German when making the reservation (60% of the respondents). “In this sense, the beautiful, unique and singular landscapes of our eight islands are undoubtedly a point in favor of our destination,” added the counselor.
The study also includes how the restrictions of recent years have increased the need to travel in 2023. 65% of Germans say that it is important for them to do so and 32% say that their need to go on vacation in 2023 is greater.
This assessment is specified in intention to travel, as reported by another study, that of Reiseanalyse, in which almost 70% of those surveyed last November showed a firm or positive intention to travel in the next twelve months.
In addition, according to the same report, the second priority for Germans when it comes to spending money is vacation trips (59%), second only to food.
“Based on these numerous and coincident surveys, we can be prudently optimistic with the German market. And we landed in Berlin ready to convince the agents of the German sector that the Canary Islands continue to be a safe bet,” Castilla concluded.
VISUAL AND SUSTAINABLE STAND
The Canary Islands have a stand at the ITB Berlin that is seen for the first time in Germany, measuring 750 square meters and which stands out as you can see for its striking design and its 16 large aerial cubes with a strong visual impact, which function as huge showcases of the offer. canary tourist
In addition, Turismo de Canarias once again displays its strong commitment to sustainability, reducing the stand’s electricity consumption by 30% and the transport volume of its elements by 20%.
