SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched a campaign on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’ that is celebrated every March 8 to influence the damage caused by ‘fake news’ for the promotion of equality between women and men and the fight against gender violence.

This initiative seeks to generate and disseminate powerful headlines that draw attention, make the risk of misinformation visible, and make citizens reflect on the reality of women compared to men.

Prostitution leads the ranking of the safest jobs, men perform more domestic tasks than women or a man is fired when he announces that he is going to be a father are some of the false headlines that are already spreading through the media social, in order to demonstrate the “structural inequality” that women still have to face, points out a note from the Cabildo.

The CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, assures that “real equality has not been achieved” no matter how many times “it has been heard or continues to be repeated”. “Women are still at a clear disadvantage compared to men on a social, economic, sexual and employment level,” she says.

The island manager recalls that 40.2 percent of women take care of children compared to 4.8 percent of men.

However, he says that it could also be said that “women earn an average of 13% less per hour than men or that, currently, less than 4 percent of chefs with three Michelin stars who appear in this well-known restaurant guide are women”.

The campaign began broadcasting on February 23 and will run until March 15.
