The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, defended that, “to this day, the council He is not accused of anything, here nobody is accused and nobody has intervened in this plot that has been called mediator case”. This was pronounced yesterday in plenary during a speech in the debate on the state of the Island, in which he added that, despite the fact that it has been said that a separate piece on the Cabildo has been opened since March of last year, “ As of today, we have not been asked for information, nor has anyone come to investigate anything, but we will be willing to provide all the information that is necessary ”.
In this sense, Pedro Martín explained that “the Cabildo is investigating and we have reviewed the documentation, the contracts and we have not found any” that the former director of the Sports area “decided to alter on his own, no technical report that said there was to make an adjudication and the former director made another, and we have not found that he has participated in the preparation of any specifications ”.
Even so, he indicated that “we will continue reviewing documents as we have been doing” and emphasized that “if there is the slightest indication that something may have happened, we will act with the same forcefulness with which we have acted in other cases.” “Absolute transparency in this matter, we will go to the end of the decisions that have to be made, and we will be very forceful,” he emphasized.
In this regard, Pedro Martín stressed that “when CC has asked us for information about the contracts, we have delivered the documentation, because in this matter there is nothing to hide.” And he insisted that “if something appears, I guarantee that I am the first to go to court.”
People’s Party
Pedro Martín responded in this way to the spokesperson for the popular group, Zaida González, who accused him of not having fired the former director of Sports after meeting with the mediator, Antonio Navarro, which demonstrates “his inability to make decisions at the moment and time fair”, which “has made this Cabildo the point of origin of this scandal and embarrassment”, he denounced. “He said that he was going to file a complaint that we hope will not come to anything, but we are waiting to find out elements that he did not give,” he said.
The insular president refused to enter into “speculations” around the case and clarified that the former director of Sports resigned, last January, after losing a trial against Antonio Navarro for an alleged fraud that led to a false complaint, “and before that, and that it could affect the Cabildo, decided to step aside.
Pedro Martín once again acknowledged, as he did last Monday, that he met Antonio Navarro on one occasion, when he showed up, he said, “in my office without an appointment, I took care of him, as I have seen that he has met with Manuel Domínguez and more people, because he was asking for meetings with everyone”. And he explained that, in his case, nothing related to the Mediator case was discussed, but “to see how I could make enemies with the former director of Sports. He came to tell me that he was actually a supporter of the PP and that he did not have to pay any attention to him, and that is why I do not dismiss anyone ”. “And then he called me several times and sent me messages, and I decided not to listen to him because he did not provide evidence. Because I intervene when I find evidence, ”he stressed.
“In any case, from the moment this matter had some kind of significance, the island director understood that he had to step aside and it seems to me the most correct thing,” he added in this regard.
It should be remembered that the insular president already announced, last Monday, that he would file legal actions against the mediator, Antonio Navarro, for his statements in various media in which he alludes to the fact that Martín was aware of the alleged corrupt plot. He added that he would go to court in defense of his “honor and reputation”, and also clarified that he has two dogs that have been bought “with his money” and not with resources from the Güímar City Council, as Antonio Navarro has pointed out.
Commission
On the other hand, the spokesman for Sí Podemos Canarias, David Carballo, announced during the plenary debate that his group will request the creation of an investigative commission so that “it is clarified in the island headquarters to what extent the political responsibilities of island public officials reach who may have been involved in the Mediator case.” Although he pointed out that the support of at least four other plenary councilors was necessary to be able to propose its creation, and invited the other groups to join his request.
It should be remembered that the Cabildo will hold an extraordinary plenary session on the 15th, at the request of CC, so that the island president can clarify everything that happened with the former island director of Sports.
