SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will chair next Tuesday the first event to be held under his presidency of the Outermost Regions, the seminar of the Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget (COTER) of the European Committee of the Regions (CDR), on ‘Adapted responses from cohesion policy to territories with specific needs: the case of the outermost regions’.
Taking advantage of the occasion, the first reinforced bilateral dialogue between the European Commission and the Government of the Canary Islands will take place on the responses of the European Commission itself for the ORs within the framework of the new strategy.
The acts will take place at the headquarters of the Presidency in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The objective of all the activities will be to present the European Strategy for the ORs to the citizens of the Canary Islands and facilitate a debate on the future challenges for these nine outermost territories of Spain, France and Portugal and the answers that the European Commission can provide.
Next Monday at 9:00 a.m., the first meeting of the reinforced dialogue process between the members of the Governing Council and the Director of Regional Policy of the European Commission responsible for the Outermost Regions, Monika Hencsey, will be held with the objective that the Commission present the RUP Strategy to the Government.
At 10:30 a.m., a ‘Citizen Dialogue’ will begin in the Adán Martín room with the President of the Canary Islands and the director of the European Commission responsible for the ORs, which will be attended by representatives and members of Canarian institutions such as Parliament, councils, town halls , universities, business confederations, trade unions, chambers of commerce, third sector organizations and experts in new technologies, innovation, transport, energy, emergencies and sectors such as aerospace or audiovisual, among others.
The meeting will take place in different thematic blocks such as the sustainable transition (digitization, environment, tourism, green economy and blue economy); social rights (care policies, education, employment, training or migratory phenomenon); and strategic sovereignty (food, industrial and energy).
At 1:30 p.m., Ángel Víctor Torres will chair a meeting of the Association of the RUP Conference of Presidents in the Garoé room.
DAY OF TUESDAY.
On Tuesday at 09:15, the President of the Canary Islands will participate together with the President of the Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget (COTER) of the European Committee of the Regions, Emil Boc, in the seminar entitled ‘Answers adapted from cohesion policy to territories with specific needs: the case of the ORs’.
Co-organized by the European Committee of the Regions and the presidency of the Conference of Presidents of the ORs, the objective of this seminar that will take place in the Adán Martín room is to advance in the application of the Strategy for the ORs under the principle of territorial cohesion .
The first roundtable is entitled ‘EU support to unlock the potential of the ORs: The new European strategy for the ORs’ and the President of the Canary Islands will participate as a speaker, together with the Director of Territorial Policy of the Commission Union, Monika Hencsey, and the rapporteur for the Opinion on the ORs of the European Committee of the Regions, Pedro Faria e Castro,
regional vice-counselor of the Presidency of the Government of Azores.
At 11.30 am the second session will take place under the title ‘Adaptation of regional policy to other territorial realities with specific geographical characteristics’. At the end of the presentations, at 1:15 p.m., a press appearance will be held.
