SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, has inaugurated today Friday the fifth Agrocanarias Fair, which is held until Sunday in the Plaza de España in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane, in La Palma.
This event, organized by the public company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias (GMR Canarias), in collaboration with the Canarian Institute for Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), and the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council, hosts around twenty business and gastronomic exhibitors with the with the objective of bringing local products closer to urban environments and to publicize the versatility and gastronomic potential of the island and the archipelago.
The counselor toured the different stands located at the fair and was able to exchange impressions with the producers who offer the best agri-food products from the Isla Bonita and the rest of the archipelago to the public.
Alicia Vanoostende highlighted “the Government’s commitment to promoting local products, not only in the capital islands, but also in the rest of the archipelago, to publicize the excellence of our agri-food products and the great work carried out by producers of the islands”.
Along these lines, he pointed out that this edition that is being held in La Palma “is special because of all that the island has suffered as a result of the volcano and, also, because of the vitality of this municipality, to which we add another attraction with the celebration of the Agrocanarias Fair in an ideal setting such as the Plaza de España”.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture of La Palma, Ico González, thanked the work carried out by the regional Council and by GMR to bring Agrocanarias to all the islands. He explained that the fair “is an unbeatable showcase to publicize the products of the primary and agri-food sector of the Canary Islands” and stressed that it is an opportunity to generate business opportunities.
The mayoress of the municipality, Noelia García, joined in thanking the Ministry of Agriculture and GMR and added that “it is a satisfaction” to be able to count on a program in Los Llanos de Aridane that accommodates the public of all ages. She insisted on “the importance of carrying out any action that helps make the work of the sector visible and the importance of consuming local products.”
Visitors will have three days of tasting the products and gastronomy of the islands ahead of them, as well as live music, a children’s area, presentations and product training that include tastings and workshops on Canarian products. Likewise, a market has been set up where the products awarded at the Agrocanarias Awards will be sold, together with other agri-food products made in the archipelago.
Among the main activities that will take place at the Agrocanarias Fair, the following stand out: Children’s valorization workshops, with gofio, fruit, honey; for adults, tastings of island wines, rubber sap and La Palma cheeses and vinegars, among others. In addition to different musical performances by groups such as Los Lola, Miss Band and Bloody Valentine, Renzzo Selector; and eighties music sessions, among other performances.
The schedule will be on Friday, the 3rd, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.; on Saturday, the 4th, from 11:30 a.m. to 01:00 a.m., and on Sunday the 5th, from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
