SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Film Festival of Tenerife has started a new edition today, Saturday, with three days dedicated to claiming the importance of this art and its value in the cultural and social life of our country, through a meeting between the public and the creators of the movies being shown.

Loles León and Gabino Diego will be honored in a program in which Carlos Areces will also participate and a tribute will be paid to Carlos Saura, who died on February 10 at the age of 91. An initiative organized by Multicines Tenerife and the Film Talks Cultural Association, sponsored by the Department of Culture of the La Laguna City Council and the University of La Laguna (ULL).

Yaiza López Landi assured that she hopes that this film exhibition will be linked to La Laguna for many years. “Cinema is, without a doubt, one of the cultural products that we consume the most and as such helps us to shape our identity and also our dreams. It helps us to explore and discover realities beyond our borders, but also, and more importantly, within ourselves, in our own feelings and thoughts”.

He expressed his gratitude to “passionate about this art” such as Ramón González and Daniel Fumero, who organize this festival “to bring quality cinema to the people of Tenerife and, furthermore, closer Spanish cinema, which shares a large part of its cultural heritage”.

For his part, Ramón González noted the good response from the public on this occasion, “which demonstrates the interest aroused by film culture.” “We want to vindicate our classics and celebrate the cinematographic creativity that comes from the Canary Islands,” said Daniel Fumero, as stated in the Festival’s programming.

During her speech, Loles León emphasized that Spanish cinema is going through a difficult time due to the emergence of platforms; For this reason, he highlighted the importance of carrying out the La Laguna Spanish Film Festival, because it is “a way of keeping this art alive.” “Festivals must have a place of honor,” he said.

This Saturday, at 7:00 p.m., Multicines Tenerife hosts the screening of the film ‘La Reina de España’ (2016), by Fernando Trueba, and a discussion with the actress Loles León, one of the stars of the ensemble film, sequel to ‘La apple of your eyes’ (1998). He will be accompanied at the cineforum by the actor Carlos Areces, who is also part of the cast.

Previously, you can see the short film ‘Ekaterina’, by director Miguel G. Morales, a filmmaker who traveled to Cienfuegos (Cuba) for this story, where the city and its protagonist are a portrait of a lost time. In this same framework, the ULL will recognize the work of the Ateneo de La Laguna, the “valuable contribution in the dissemination of cinematographic culture” of this entity with more than a century of history, whose audiovisual section is chaired by Morales.

On Wednesday, March 8, also at 7:00 p.m., there will be a tribute to the career of Gabino Diego, winner of the Goya Award in 1990 for the best supporting male performance for ‘¡Ay, Carmela!’, directed by Carlos Saura and produced by Andres Vicente Gomez.

At the III Spanish Film Festival in Tenerife, ‘El viaje a nunparte’ (1986), by Fernando Fernán Gómez, winner of the Best Film award at the first edition of the Goya Spanish Film Awards, will be screened. It is based on a novel by the director and screenwriter himself, where Gabino Diego plays the son of the character played by José Sacristán, a boy who disapproves of his father’s profession, comedian and director of a small theater company that travels through the provinces in the post-war period. .

PLATFORM FOR NEW CREATORS

Thus, the short film ‘The Revolution of the Poppies’, by Samuel Labrador, can be seen on Wednesday, March 8, accompanying ‘The trip to nowhere’. In this case, it is the story of the journey of this flower, conducive to making drugs, and how what it gives to some, takes away from others. Labrador has stood out with previous works such as ‘Noche de Guardia’ or ‘Chimisay’.

Finally, on Friday, as a preview of the screening of ‘La Caza’, the Festival will offer ‘Cloro’, by Pablo Borges, a title that is part of the Canarias en Corto 2023 Catalog.
