The president admits a meeting with Navarro Tacoronte, several calls and sending messages but he had no “proof” and did not listen to him
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, said this Friday that the corporation “is not accused of anything” and that in the internal investigation carried out around the Sports area and a possible involvement in the ‘Mediator case’ they have not found ” no contract” that was modified, nor any technical report in which it was warned to make an award and the director of Sports made another or intervened in any specification.
In a speech in the ‘Debate on the State of the Island’, however, he pointed out that they are going to “go to the end” and will be “very forceful” in making decisions but for now “no one has been charged” and no intervened in this case.
In fact, he has commented that he is not aware that the judge in the case has opened a separate piece on the Cabildo since March of last year, nor has anyone come “to investigate anything” and has shown his willingness to have “absolute transparency.”
Along these lines, he has said that “if the slightest indication is shown, we will act with the same forcefulness as in other cases.”
Martín has refused to give rise to “speculations” around the case and has clarified that Ángel Pérez resigned from his position at the end of January after losing a trial against Antonio Navarro Tacoronte for an alleged fraud that led to a false complaint.
He has once again acknowledged that he met Navarro Tacoronte on one occasion in his Cabildo office –he appeared without an appointment– and attended him because “he was asking for meetings with everyone”, including the president of the PP of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, or the mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, has stood out.
He has pointed out that he did not speak “anything” about the supposed ‘Meditor case’ and the conversation revolved around how he could “enmise” with the director of Sports. “Notice that what he came to tell me was that he really was a sympathizer of the PP and that I did not have to pay any attention to him. Look, that is why I do not fire anyone,” he stressed.
THE MEDIATOR HAD NO PROOF OF ANYTHING
Martín has also commented that he called him “several times” and sent him messages but finally decided not to listen to him because he did not provide evidence of anything. “I intervene when I have evidence. In any case, at the moment that this case had some significance, the island director understood that he had to step aside and it seems to me the most correct thing to do”, he indicated.
The president of Tenerife has made ugly the spokesman for the Nationalist Group, Carlos Alonso, that he believed the mediator’s story in relation to the fact that the Cabildo was looking for a way to “bust” the Los Realejos City Council to politically harm the then mayor, Manuel Domínguez, who has been denied “looking him in the eye.”
The spokesperson for the PP, Zaida González, has asked Martín “why he did not dismiss” the director of Sports after meeting with Navarro Tacoronte and based on the court order of February 2022 on the false complaint and the fraud, which demonstrates his ” inability” to make decisions at the “right time.
He has regretted that the Cabildo has become the point of origin of this “embarrassment and scandal” in which Tenerife and the Canary Islands “are at the center of attention of such shady matters” and maintains that “with or without a lawsuit” it should having “apologised” to the citizens for not having dismissed the island director.
González has criticized the “loss of credibility and lack of courage” of the president, who has a version of events that “falls under its own weight.”
YES WE CAN ASK FOR AN INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE
The spokesman for Sí Podemos, David Carballo, has announced that his group will request the creation of an investigation commission to clarify the involvement of the corporation in the ‘Mediator case’.
Thus, he has indicated that it is a matter of knowing the scope of the “political responsibilities” that island officials could have, also stressing that the supposed “change in power” represented by the PSOE, together with Ciudadanos, has been a “change of parties” .
Carballo has commented that the support of another political group or at least four other councilors is needed -Sí Podemos has two- so he has extended his hand to all the formations of the corporation.
