With the motto Together we are stronger, the La Laguna City Council yesterday presented the program of events organized for the International Women’s Day, which is commemorated on the 8th, and which will last until the next 29. Different municipal areas participate in the activities in a transversal way. In addition, the poster, designed by Asiria Álvarez, was unveiled.
The councilor for Equality and LGBTI, Idaira Afonso, stressed that this “is the first year after the pandemic in which we can celebrate this date without any type of restriction, in all its splendor.” “It is a very important date for everyone. City hall and it will consist of a broad and extensive programming, because we believe that it is important not only to make visible on specific days, but also to work daily for equality and against patriarchy”, he added.

The 8M program includes cultural activities (concerts, exhibitions, plays, etc.), guided tours, talks, family activities and workshops, through which various issues related to the situation of women in the different spheres of life and claiming their role in art, the labor market and life in general. With this, it seeks to dialogue, reflect and debate around these aspects, with the aim of creating awareness of what has been achieved and what remains to be achieved.
The reading of the manifesto will be on March 8, at 12:00, in the Plenary Hall of the City Council. “This manifesto is prepared jointly by the women, groups, associations and political formations that make up the Council of Women of La Laguna,” explained the councilor. Within the program of events, Idaira Afonso specified that the Juntas Somos Más Fuertes Festival will take place on the 11th, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the Aguere Cultural Space and with free admission. This festival will value the informative part of various projects of social groups and the feminist field, with children’s and family activities for all, and will feature musical performances.
Another of the events to highlight within the 8M program will be the delivery of the IV Women’s Award, which will be held on the 15th at the Teatro Leal. In addition, three leading women within masculinized fields will share, in three talks, their experiences and job development from a gender perspective, offering youth different profiles.
