In a statement made public on Wednesdaysix o’clock murgas winners of the contests Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria inform of their decision “not to celebrate the Regional Meeting of Murgas de Candelaria this year”. They argue difficulties in finding dates on which the six formations can coincide “due to other commitments and performances scheduled in advance.”
This is how they respond to the commitment they made on Tuesday, in a meeting with the municipal government, to agree on an upcoming date to celebrate the act. Thus they warn of the “inconveniences” to meet “the will of public representatives to offer, now, the move on the day of celebration (tomorrow) of the Murgas Regional Meeting.”
They propose that the City Council “work in advance for the 2024 edition” so that the murgas know the date “in advance and can be held in the best conditions.” They say that “the public, street musicians and neighbors deserve a well-organized act and on dates consistent with Carnival.”
