SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Public Administration, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, as responsible for the control of the efficiency, effectiveness and legality of public services, has agreed to initiate an extraordinary and urgent inspection as a result of the so-called ‘Mediator case’ and that It includes all the actions of the General Directorate of Livestock since 2019, entrusting this function to the technical services of the General Inspection of Services, which depends on the General Directorate of Modernization.
This was announced at a press conference by the director responsible for the Area and spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, who has also reported that said department, in its responsibility as manager of electronic communications for the autonomous community, has sent to the Court of Instruction Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is investigating this alleged corruption plot, some computer supports to access corporate communications of the former general directors of Livestock, Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo and his nephew Taishet Fuentes.
On the other hand, the spokesman has communicated that the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has responded “in its entirety” to the requirement made by the Investigating Court Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which requested that it forward a series of files related to four companies since 2016.
In this sense, Julio Pérez indicated that the Department headed by Alicia Vanoostende has informed that in this first investigation the existence of damage to the treasury of the autonomous community has not been verified, that is, “no sign has appeared, nor even indicative, that in some procedure there is a lack of money, a reduction or some damage to the public interest, “said the spokesman for the Canary Islands Executive.
In this sense, the spokesman for the Canary Islands Executive also pointed out that the General Inspection of Services has not found “neither damage nor harm”, which has led the legal services of the Government of the Canary Islands to conclude that the Executive cannot appear as aggrieved before the investigating authority in the case for the ‘Mediator case’. However, Julio Pérez pointed out that the Government of the Canary Islands does not rule out taking part in this case as soon as it is verified that there is prejudice or damage to public interests.
On the other hand, it has reported that the legal services have responded to the request of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, for them to take the pertinent legal actions in defense of their own prestige and honor, understanding that they had been injured by some of the statements made in the press by Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, the alleged mediator of this corruption scheme.
Thus, the legal services of the autonomous community have determined that this is an action that is the responsibility of the person of the president and not of the institution of the Presidency. Therefore, it is the president who, if he deems it, must exercise the legal actions that he deems appropriate to defend his honor. It has also announced that a government adviser has already sued Navarro Tacoronte for her accusations against her.
