The Municipal Socialist Group in the La Orotava City Council accuses the Canary Islands Coalition of not seriously addressing the traffic problems suffered by the El Rincón area and of wanting to divert attention by placing the burden of blame on El Consorcio: “Once again , Francisco Linares and his team prefer to throw balls out and avoid responsibility rather than give an effective response to the problems suffered by our neighbors.”
The PSOE insists that the task of finding alternatives to avoid the serious traffic problems that can occur in El Rincón during the summer months is a municipal responsibility: “The Government Group must act and make practical decisions to solve the concerns of our neighbors and neighbours. CC has in its power to adopt measures to alleviate a situation that is expected to be complicated in the summer season. Wanting to avoid this problem by blaming the Consortium is extremely irresponsible”.
In this sense, the PSOE urges the CC to put aside the political game and “to meet the socialist demands, which are none other than the same demands of the residents of the area.”
In the plenary session held on March 28, councilor Samuel Mesa asked a question regarding the CC Government Group in La Orotava, about mobility alternatives in the Rincón area given the proximity of the summer months in which it is expected a greater volume of vehicles in the area: “For this reason we were simply asking for provisional measures that could be put on the table to alleviate the mobility and traffic problems in the area, even more so, with the possible knock-on effect that this could have unique space for the opening of Playa de Los Patos after 9 years of closure”.
In his speech, the socialist councilor urged, for example, to reinforce the service of the current bus line, to at least provide bathers and visitors with the option of public transport as has been done with other areas of neighboring municipalities and on the Island: “ We are aware that the Rincón area is a protected space despite the intentions of many, a place that is governed by a Special Plan and with a Consortium. Body, which is made up of different administrations and entities.”
The Socialist Group shares the need for the Consortium to meet in the shortest possible time. “But we want to remind the CC Government Group, who silenced the inactivity of the Rincón Consortium for no more and no less than 13 years, without major works or significant actions in the area. And that it was not until 2014, by the will of the Socialist Party in the Cabildo and in the Government of the Canary Islands, this being an electoral commitment of this formation, when the Rincón Consortium began to meet again. As a result of these meetings and the will on the part of all, the project for the stairs of Playa de Los Patos has gone ahead”.
“From the Socialist Group we try that what happens every summer does not happen, we ask for a little more restraint and memory from the Government Group of La Orotava that has been managing the Municipality for 40 years and we once again express our desire that the Consortium meet with more frequency, in that we are from the Socialist Municipal Group as well. We legitimately ask for provisional measures as demanded by the neighbors, to alleviate a traffic problem and an imminent collapse of the roads in the area with the approach of good weather,” insists the socialist spokesperson, María Jesús Alonso.
