SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the PP of the Canary Islands and candidate for the presidency of the islands, Manuel Domínguez, has admitted this Wednesday that he met a little over a year ago and through a journalist the intermediary of the corruption plot known as ‘mediator case’, Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, who wanted to inform him of maneuvers against him.
This alleged operation against him and the municipality of Los Realejos itself, of which Domínguez was mayor at that time, came from an undetermined “someone” from the Island Council of Tenerife. Navarro Tacoronte also added comments to the popular narrative that there was a case of corruption that “was going to spread everywhere.”
Domínguez has assured in statements to journalists from the Parliament of the Canary Islands, where the debate on the status of Canarian nationality is being held, that he gave him the fair credibility that can be given to statements made during the course of “a coffee”.
“I met a local journalist who was accompanied by another man who turns out to be this man, Mr. Navarro [el ‘mediador’]who did not even remember his name, and he told me: be careful because there is a man from the Cabildo de Tenerife who is going to burst Los Realejos, “said the popular.
“And there is a case so big that it is going to spread everywhere,” Domínguez said. “I heard that conversation” and “I gave it the credibility that you will understand can be given to a coffee conversation,” she explained.
“I did not give him more credibility, because in the end when one has been in this for a few years there are many people who can tell you: be careful with this or with this other,” he maintained.
This is how the president of the popular Canarian clubs explained this contact after the man known as the ‘mediator’ explained in two interviews in the local media -Channel 10 TV and Xanadú Radio- that he had met on several occasions with Domínguez in the outside the Parliament to tell him details of what was happening in the Island Council.
In the course of these interviews, the ‘mediator’ mentions alleged efforts made since 2015 with current or recent political representatives of a large number of Tenerife councils such as La Laguna, Guía de Isora, Arona, Güimar or Los Realejos, sowing doubts. about mayors and councilors from different areas, although without specifying excessive details about the alleged irregularities.
The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE Canarias, Nira Fierro, has exposed to the media the statements of the ‘mediator’ about Domínguez, although later wanting to show her doubts about the veracity of what was exposed about the popular leader and her knowledge of details of the plot.
FIERRO ASKS THE PP TO LEARN NOT TO ASSESS WHAT THE MEDIATOR SAYS
“We have learned through the media that, according to the ‘mediator’, the PP candidate for the Presidency of the Canary Islands was aware of the facts that have been reported these days and what we are asking for is what we demand of ourselves, which is starting from the innocence that we ask for the facts reported in front of our candidate [el presidente del Gobierno de Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres, del que el ‘mediador’ mantiene que estaba al tanto de la trama]Iron said.
In statements to the media, the Secretary of Organization of the Canarian PSOE reiterated that we must start from innocence to face “each of these new news items that are coming out every day from the so-called mediator.”
“He said that the PP candidate knew the facts that have come to light and, therefore, we ask the PP to deal with this matter as we have done, always based on the presumption of innocence,” he stressed.
Here, he advocated questioning the claims of a person who has been convicted of various causes. “Therefore, [Domínguez] has to have the caution and the right to doubt that we are requesting for ourselves”, he concluded.
DOMÍNGUEZ PREFERS IT TO BE A “LIE” THAT SOMEONE SEEKS TO DESTROY HIM
Domínguez, for his part, considered that the “mediator” “has not said anything” against him: “the fact that he has seen me does not imply any matter to sue me, what he said that someone wanted to destroy me yes and I would like to know who wanted to destroy me.”
In any case, the president of the popular canaries prefers to believe that this alleged conspiracy against him “is a lie.” “I still can’t believe that someone wants to destroy me […] I want it to be a lie”, he concluded, noting that this way of wanting to involve him in the story is rather a way of trying to turn on the “fan” to hide what is really irregular.
