He Santa Cruz City Hall authorized, since last week, an access area for dogs in the acapulco beachwhich is located next to the area of El Bloque, in Valleseco, recently renovated by the City Council.
At the moment, it is the first beach in the capital that allows access for dogs. However, from the City Council they qualified that the presence of dogs is prohibited in El Bloque, a space that has recently been renovated by the Chicharrero Town Hall with a children’s playground and a calisthenics area, with opening and closing hours, from 07:00 to 11:00 p.m.
The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, recalled in this regard that “access of dogs is authorized on Acapulco beach, and the municipal ordinance regulating the protection and possession of animals must be complied with.” To which he added that, “in this way, it becomes the first beach in the capital that allows dog access.”
In the rest of the bathing areas of the municipality, this use is still not allowed, something that must be regulated by the future ordinance of the Beaches and Bathing Areas of Santa Cruz, which is currently in the drafting period, after a first phase of citizen participation.
Precisely in that phase, one of the most heated debates took place around the defenders of allowing dogs access to the beaches and those who opposed that authorization, even pointing out that the presence of animals should be regulated by specific hours.
On the other hand, in both spaces, as well as in the rest of the city’s beaches, the Santa Cruz City Council reminds that smoking is prohibited, as regulated by the current municipal waste ordinance that came into force on January 18.
