The 18 years of history of the Mazape viewpointin San Juan de la RamblaThey are full of shadows and problems. A real ordeal for a facility that boasts of having some of the best views of the island, since on clear days it is possible to see the coast from Buenavista del Norte to La Punta del Hidalgo. Cost €725,000 and it was inaugurated in 2005. It failed as a viewpoint, cafeteria and restaurant. Closed since 2015, it has suffered several vandalism and robbery that have prevented the facility from raising its head. He ramblero town hall invested 200,000 euros between 2018 and 2019 to condition it as a rural hostel for hikersbut the two contests called in 2022 to find a private manager they turned out deserted. Added to this failure was a new partial looting. Despite everything, the ramblero government (PSOE-AIS-CC) does not lose hope and is preparing a third attempt at an administrative concession.
The mayor of the town, the socialist Ezekiel Dominguezrecognizes that “it is frustrating” to rehabilitate this municipal property so that, once again, the vandals have caused damage valued at around 49,000 euros. The insurance and the Consistory will cover the damages caused by people who approached this public good to steal the aluminum windows and doors, part of the electrical material and the boiler to heat the water. The damage report and complaint have already been processedbut those responsible have not yet been identified.
«There are companies that have shown interest in each of the two previous tenders. We are going to launch a third contestwith even more competitive conditionssince we do not want to generate great benefits for the City Council, but to achieve that this viewpoint once and for all recovers the activity as a hostel, “explains Domínguez.
For the president, these latest damages, which arrived at the end of September 2022, just when the second award competition was being processed, “will not be a problem.” Everything will be repaired and the successful bidder “will be able to benefit from very competitive economic conditions.” Its objective is to launch the third award attempt “before the end of the mandate”. There are barely three months left for the elections and unblocking the Mazapé is one of the last objectives of the government.
“We want it to work again. We don’t even see it as a source of income. We will offer the maximum benefits that the legislation allows us so that the business is viable and can be consolidated before the canon begins to be paid. There will be a grace period for those interested to decide to take the step, “advances the president.
Its isolation prevented it from functioning as a cafeteria and restaurant. Three administrative concessions failed between 2005 and 2015. Subsequent acts of vandalism depleted and destroyed the old viewpoint until, in November 2018, the Ramblero Town Hall began the penultimate reform works. That rehabilitation concluded in mid-2019, but the tender for this hostel with capacity for 22 people he ran into the change in the Mayor’s Office and the pandemic. In 2022 there were two failed attempts and now 2023 is expected to be the final year.
The property has a total constructed area of 284 square meters, distributed in five bedrooms, dining room, toilets, reception, warehouse and laundry, as well as several garden areas and a large car park with capacity for around twenty cars. Situated in the natural space of Campeches, Tigaiga and Ruizis connected to trails that run the Ruiz Ravine and unite the coastal area with the mountains and reach the Teide National Park.
