The municipality of Arona renews the tradition of taking the image of the Santísimo Cristo de la Salud to Montaña Frías to ask for the rains that guarantee the prosperity of the primary sector, which is known as the Prayer of the Rain, which was resumed in 2016 after a few years of abandonment. After two years without being able to celebrate due to the pandemic, this traditional procession returns on the first Sunday of March.

In this way, hundreds of people will go through the streets of Casco de Arona to the cemetery next Sunday, March 5, accompanying the image in an act with more than a century of tradition.

The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the parish of San Antonio Abad, from where the image of Cristo de la Salud, perpetual mayor of Arona, will go in procession through the streets of Casco until it reaches the chapel of the Virgen de la Miraculous, where the Eucharist will be celebrated at 11:00.

Once finished, the procession will continue to Montaña Frías, where at 12:00 noon there will be a tribute and musical offering to the Santísimo Cristo de la Salud by the Municipal School of Folklore of Arona, in addition to the reading of the prayer and the blessing of attendees Later, the image will return to the parish.

The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, invites all the residents “to participate in this festivity that shows the enormous cultural legacy that the municipality has and that had fallen into oblivion. After recovering it in the previous mandate, and after two years without being able to celebrate it due to the pandemic, this Sunday we will go out in a procession to value the importance of the rains for our municipality and our primary sector, which was the traditional economy of Arona for decades ”.
