SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Employment, Carmen Luz Baso, has highlighted the good reception that the program is having, organized by the Museum of Ibero-American Crafts of Tenerife (MAIT) to help preserve part of the cultural heritage that makes up the traditional artisan trades of Tenerife.
“These are courses whose demand exceeds in many cases the expected places and with which we seek to train new artisans and artisans and help renew knowledge of those who already exist with a view to guaranteeing generational relief and the sustainability of an activity with a high cultural and patrimonial component”, he added.
The insular director of Socioeconomic Development, Ermitas Moreira, also highlighted the opportunity offered by this training offer to “bring the population closer to trades that are part of the Canarian culture, and contribute to awakening the interest of the population, especially youth , so that they can endure over time”.
This month of March there are four planned courses: initiation to embroidery, openwork, rosette and basketry.
The 2023 Crafts Training Plan will continue from April to September, months in which the rest of the training offers will be given for which the registration period is pending. In parallel, the MAIT organizes each year a program of activities aimed at schools so that students know and appreciate the origin, evolution and current situation of our Canarian Crafts
The programming covers all educational levels and revolves around two types of activities, such as the visit to the Museum of school groups to participate in didactic itineraries or workshops, and the organization of Craft days in educational centers, to disseminate and train students from ESO on traditional trades.
Only last year, the MAIT received 2,800 students, of different educational levels, who participated in workshops on natural dyes, pottery, rosette, among other trades. That same 2021-2022 academic season, more than a hundred educational centers on the island received informative workshops and talks on artisan trades.
