Despite the discontinuous presence of rain, the absence in some sections of the Local Police and mechanical incidents, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Antique Car Contest put the final touch on the chicharrero carnivalwith a demonstration of the great automotive heritage that we have on the island, with mounts still in force from 1920 to 1936.
Yesterday, in the 52nd edition of the contest, some thirty vehicles gathered that impressed hundreds of visitors due to their conservation and beauty, both in the García Sanabria park and in the final exhibition on Anaga avenue, before proceeding to the delivery of distinctions at a lunch at the Real Club Náutico.
Yesterday it was the 52nd anniversary of a ride organized by the Tenerife Antique Automobile Club, which has been in existence for another year. Almost half of it has been chaired by Abel Febles, who was passionate about cars from a very young age until it became almost a way of life, like almost all the partners, who come from all over Tenerife, driven by a tradition that they try to instill to their relatives, as does Zósimo Álvarez, owner of a spectacular Chevrolet, with his grandson.
In this edition, 33 vehicles had registered, although only 29 finally finished the contest. The Armstrong Siddeley Phaeton, from 1920, driven by José Santana Aguiar, registration TF-557, was the oldest, owned by the brothers Laureano and Hortensia Fernández, a family determined that the great automotive heritage of Tenerife does not continue to leave the Island.
