Santa Cruz lives the last hours of a Carnival Piñata Saturday which has confirmed, with 420,000 people, all the forecasts of the organization in terms of public influx. The second Day Carnival of the year and the nocturnal dances of the Piñata were merged into the same festive day, with more than fifty performances in 18 non-stop hours of music and dancewith a city full of carnival-goers, carnival-goers and visitors who have placed the sign in full capacity in hotels, in vacation rentals and overwhelmed the most rosy forecasts of the restaurants.

The mayor of Santa Cruz, Jose Manuel Bermudezassesses that “above forecasts, after some atypical years in the celebration of our most international party, this edition has meant an explosion of people eager to live the best carnival in the world” and advances that “with the figures that we manage for the influx of vehicles, hotel occupancy and vacation accommodation, plus public transport in buses, trams and taxis, to which must be added the closest residents who come on foot, this edition will be remembered as one of the most massive in history”.

“In addition -concludes the councilor- there are some data to which we must add the very few incidents recorded regarding the flood of people who have come to this capital to enjoy this city full of things to do, see, taste and visit” and ends affirming that “we are convinced that our Carnival is the dynamizing action par excellence and with the return to normality it shows that it has a convening capacity that exceeds all forecasts in the influx of chicharreros, chicharreras, visitors and tourists, many arriving on cruise ships that choose us as their base port”.

The movement of the public in the Quadrilateral of the Carnival is situated around the 420,000 people, from morning to night, according to data from the Local Police. In the time slot from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the entry of vehicles amounted to 103,038 movements of vehicles in the capital of Tenerife, taking into account that since 12:00 p.m. the average density of vehicles has been increasing hourly. With global data, around 9:00 p.m., there was a lot of traffic on the roads outside the Carnival Quadrilateral.

The local police keep the traffic control and preventive closures to ensure the safety of carnival goers. This increase in traffic and the delays at the entrance to Santa Cruz have made it necessary to redouble efforts to regulate traffic on the access roads to the capital.

The crowd has ended up crowding the entire area between Avenida Francisco La Roche, the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena and Plaza de España, as well as adjacent streets such as La Marina, Villalba Hervás and Emilio Calzadilla.

And it should also be taken into account that to this influx of people we must add the arrivals on the different cruise ships that are currently anchored in the Port of Santa Cruz, so that both tourists and their crew have also gathered at some point. of the day to this popular manifestation of the Daytime Carnival, in this case as a farewell to this edition dedicated to New York.

Since noon, when the program of activities organized by the City Council began, through the Autonomous Organization of Festivals and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), the influx of people was constant around the stages installed in the squares of La Candelaria and the Príncipe and Francisco La Roche avenue.

The celebration will last almost until dawn this Sunday.
