He Idealista real estate portal echoes the sale of a historic house in The Gran Canarian palms. Specifically, it is the small palace located in the Plaza de San Bernardo that was the seat of the Government of the Canary Islands in the capital of Gran Canaria with the establishment of the State of Autonomies.

The building is currently not inhabited and is for sale for 9 million euroswithout any degree of protection.

“The double capital status of the Canarian Autonomous Government establishes the main headquarters of the Executive in Santa Cruz of Tenerife, next to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, and an office in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, currently in Rafael O’Shanahan square, near Avenida Juan XXIII. Until 1992, this small palace built in the 50s, with almost 400 m2 divided into two floors, on a plot of almost 1,000 m2, housed the seat of the presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands in the capital of Gran Canaria”, describes the Idealista portal.

“It was used as the headquarters for the Common Deputy until 2012. At that time it was sold into private hands, and since then it has been speculating about its sale and possible disappearance. The building is in good condition, although it is currently empty, ”he adds.

“At first the property was included in the special protection plan for the neighborhoods of Vegueta and Triana, but an appeal before the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands of 2016, and with a final sentence in 2018, ended its architectural protection. The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria tried to acquire the mansion to give it a public use, but in the end nothing materialized”, he continues.

“Building currently has a mixed-use building license, that is, it can be both a residential and an office, commercial and hotel building, but without that degree of protection. The new owners could demolish it and build a building in its place with up to six floors, according to the announcement, in this central location in the historic center of the capital of gran canaria”, he concludes.
