By Doris Carballo.| The murga realejera Irónicos was crowned the winner of the Northern Adult Murgas Contest on the 11th, for the third time in its history, and won the Criticón Award, which is awarded by the media for the quality of its lyrics. The beginnings of the formation go back to 2004, the year in which it was founded and entered the Carnival of the north of the Island. Thus, on his 19th birthday he returned to the contest that saw him born through the front door, after stepping on the last time the scenarios in the year 2018.
DIARIO DE AVISOS has spoken with its director, Yared García (in the foreground, in the image), who made his debut at the helm of Irónicos at this carnival, although he has been part of it since its foundation, to review the triumphant return to the stages of his murga and to find out what the immediate future will hold for him.
-What does it mean for you to get the first prize for interpretation in the Murgas del Norte Contest, for the third time in its history, as well as the Criticón Prize after your return to the stage?
“Well, a joy. We are still in a cloud. That they recognize your work in the end is the reward for all the effort of the collective for so long. And especially happy to add another critic, with lyrics by my great friend Borja Díaz Pérez, a key component and piece in this project “
Did you expect to be able to do it?
“Our main objective was for the murga to return to Carnival. With the passage of time you see the work and the excited people and that leads you to think big. And although it sounds repetitive, for us the most important thing was to return ”.
-What do you think has been the formula of these Carnivals to win the award? Have the changes in the musical and artistic direction influenced after your long hiatus?
“The formula has been in teamwork, in the union that has been achieved within the collective by making everyone participate in the project. That has created a family and with the family things always go better. As for the musical part, I would say that the fact that the last two musical directors work side by side has had a super positive influence on the murga, with the return to musical editing by Samuel Fumero and the help of Samuel Hernández Muco when it comes to carry essays. For us they form a special and unique duo. The talent inherited from Fumero and the life that Muco transmits. And these types of factors mean that the essence of Ironicos is not lost”.
-Yared Garcia’s first year as director. How has he felt in front of the murga and what balance does he make?
“Well, I feel privileged. I have no words to describe what this year has been personally at the head of the collective. They have all made it easy for me since the day they offered me the position and that for me has been the best prize I have received. Super positive balance ”.
-They had not stepped on stage since 2018. What made you come back? Will you continue for another year to be, as you yourself say, “the voice of the people”?
“I would say that what led us to return was the feeling that it could mean the definitive end of the murga if we didn’t take it out this year. That’s where our president, Eduardo González, entered the scene, who has been the fundamental piece for Ironic today to be a reality. He, together with important people within the collective, moved the correct pieces to be able to start the project and in the end for the group it has been one of the most special and beautiful years that we can remember. I’m not talking about prizes, but about what was created internally in the murga. We managed to be a family again and we are back to stay. So yes, we will continue to be the voice of the people for a long time to come.”
-Next year they will compete both in the North and in Santa Cruz as a prize after being crowned as the best murga in the northern contest. How do you feel about it? Is it a prize for you after so much time rehearsing?
“For us, our contest is the one in the North, but we are not going to deny that we are excited to be able to participate in Santa Cruz as well. In the end it is a showcase where you can reach more people and where all the conditions exist to be able to enjoy Carnival a little more if possible”.
