He Council of Tenerife has invested 569,000 euros in the increase from 60 to 85 residential places in the social and health center of La Corujerain the municipality of Saint Ursula. The increase in more than 41% of the beds available for the elderly and dependents will serve to absorb part of the existing demand in the region and, according to the mayor, Juan Acosta (AISU)“will allow more families to have their elders close.”
The expansion is now complete and the rooms, 25 square meters eachThey are already equipped with beds and the rest of the furniture. For it to be put into use, probably from next April, all that remains is to equip the common living and dining area.
Juan Acosta thanked the council of Tenerife “for inaugurating these squares that are more than necessary and the first of many more that are needed throughout the island.” For the mayor, “We all know what the proximity of a socio-health center means for families and this comes to respond to this situation. The population is aging, pathologies are increasing and having centers prepared like this one, with specialized personnel, is appreciated”.
The investment in this reform exceeds 569,000 euros
The island president Peter Martin (PSOE), stressed that «going from 60 to 85 places, with a much larger space, will also allow users to have much larger common spaces where they can walk, exercise, have meeting places. In the future, a new extension could even be considered in this center. However, Martín qualified that «neither the Cabildo de Tenerife nor the Government of the Canary Islands We are already betting on large centers, because it is not about storing older. We want to create many more centers, but smaller ones. With examples such as the recently opened community center in the orotavawhere 15 autonomous elderly people live».
«We expanded another residence for the elderly to address one of the biggest problems on the island of Tenerife: the few places for people who need to be in a residence. But this will not be the only work that we are going to start up and we are already working so that in 2023 an extension is carried out in the municipality of Acentejo’s Victoryand other works in La Orotava, La Matanza, Arico, Santa Cruz and La Laguna, among other. We have a budget to implement projects that we have been negotiating with town halls such as Saint Ursulawho have given us the necessary land, “Martín stressed.
In the opinion of the insular president, with respect to the socio-sanitary places, «we try to make up for lost time to make available to the citizens of Tenerife a significant number of places for the elderly ».
