The popular Twitter profile of Before-Now Tenerife has recalled last Wednesday one of the “majestic” scenarios of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerifeexactly the first one that was built in the Plaza de España and that many remember as the best of all those that have been done so far.
In that edition of the great chicharrera party, that of 1989, the chosen theme was “Millennial Egypt“. Some users have responded to the aforementioned tweet with comments such as: “one of the best, if not the best. What a pity that they only ride in the Enclosure, only for a few”.
As the newspaper recalls The country In his chronicle of January 21, 1989, the simulated pharaonic temple was devised by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador. Likewise, the works to build the stage, which cost some 80 million pesetas, “forced to modify the direction of traffic in an area of maximum automobile concentration.”
That year, María Remedios Ramos Díaz was crowned Queen of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in one of the nights that this newspaper, on its front page of January 28, described as “one of the most beautiful that have been seen” in the capital of the island.
From its inception, the show was like a “real movie”, due to the impressive effect of light and the majesty of the stage. The music, the display of lights and special effects took the public to ancient Egypt, in a show directed by Jaime Azpilicueta.
