SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, will present a motion to the plenary session of the City Council to start a file of honors and distinctions in favor of the Post Office staff and the consequent labeling of a space in the street of the town “that recognizes the great work carried out by the workers of the postal service in our municipality”.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez made this announcement during a visit to the Correos facilities at its headquarters on Santo Domingo street, where he was accompanied by the Production Manager of the Insular Area, Iván Rodríguez García, and the Real Estate coordinator, Domingo López Ruiz.
“Correos staff carry out an essential public service on a daily basis that does not always have the recognition it deserves. With this initiative we want to value this work and its importance for La Laguna society,” said the mayor, who also applauded the result of the renovation works of the Santo Domingo building, “which, being very respectful of the main characteristics of the property and its location in the historic center, has meant a notable improvement in accessibility, comfort for customer service and for our own staff in the delivery unit, and progress in energy efficiency”.
The Post Office building in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, dating from 1960, was completely rehabilitated between 2020 and 2021, improving its living conditions, and increasing functionality and energy savings. Among the actions carried out are the improvement of accessibility through access ramps at the main entrance and an elevator to replace the old loading dock, the installation on the roof of the building of new air conditioning equipment and 26 photovoltaic panels with an electrical generation of 10 Kw, as well as the renovation of the sanitation, electricity, air conditioning and security installations. Among the services incorporated into the offices are the new Citypaq smart lockers that allow packages to be collected, sent or returned without having to go through a window.
“These new offices represent a notable improvement for users, but also to facilitate the daily work of the staff,” celebrated Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who recalled that the plenary session of the La Laguna City Council already approved a motion of support last December Postal workers in the municipality. In said motion, unanimously approved, the Corporation requested that the vacancies in the staff be filled, to guarantee the proper functioning of the postal service in the municipality. “The beginning of the file of honors and distinctions in favor of the Post Office staff reinforces this claim”, concluded the mayor.
