SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thousands of participants have revived since the early hours of this Monday the spirit of the Great Landing of Los Indianos, in the most anticipated day of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de La Palma, a party where participation is everything, which welcomes and integrates those who they enjoy it from their childhood as those who discover it for the first time, with the particularity that it is a celebration of life where one does not observe but rather participates in it.

And it is that at 1:00 p.m. an influx of 70,000 people was estimated, according to data from the Local Police.

Santa Cruz de La Palma became a small Cuba this Monday, a tribute and parody of the history of La Palma for those who emigrated in search of the future and returned to La Palma with wealth to improve the lives of their families and traditions that are today signs of our idiosyncrasy.

The day began with the arrival at the port of the capital of the character of Negra Tomasa and her family, received by the Councilor for Fiestas of the local Corporation, Daura González, together with other authorities, and with which the starting gun was given to the parade , dances and performances in the old town and other parts of the municipality.

The nerve center of the morning was the Plaza de España and Calle O’Daly where the parody of La Espera took place in the atrium of the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Hall to give rise to live music enlivened by Orillas del Son and Cuarto Son in the Plaza de España. A place that became the Plaza de La Habana with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Cuban Consul General in the Canary Islands, Elsa Agramonte, accompanied by the Councilor for Fiestas and, minutes later, the public applauded the arrival of Black Thomas.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Juan José Neris Hernández, welcomed the thousands of participants who, with their presence and participation, have become ambassadors of the city as protagonists of an already iconic image of this carnival and of the city itself. island.

The popular conga ‘Sangre indiana’ was a tremendous song in a dramatized show that together with the group Orillas del Son, the presenters of the event and the 1001 steps dance troupe, was broadcast on Televisión Canaria for two hours.

The tradition of Los Indianos de La Palma mixes the historical, the cultural, the ethnographic and, above all, the popular. From these wickers a party has been consolidated that goes from the urban to the ritual in its preparation. It is a feeling of belonging to a collective that unites palm trees and palm trees. And around this celebration the parade takes place during the afternoon.

Hundreds of people have participated in the security, emergency, cleaning and logistics operation so that the technical and human development of this festival that has spread to different parts of the municipality has been possible. Thus, live music gathered at points such as the La Recova market, José Mata square, La Alameda square and the central area, among others, in order to keep people flowing throughout the day. .
