Garachico manages this year the largest budget in its history

He Garachico Town Hall will manage in this year 2023 the largest budget in its history. municipal resources increase by 18.28% compared to 2022 and reach the figure of €6,043,488. The recovery of income, greatly diminished by Covid in 2020 and 2021, allows the town to increase expenses, despite the general increase in prices in recent months.

The mayor of Garachico, Jose Heriberto Gonzalez (CC)emphasizes that these budgets will be “much more expansive”, which will allow improvements in subsidies and aid to the different groups, clubs and associations of the municipality, “whose work indisputably contributes to the cultural, sports and social development of Garachico”. González details that “if we have maintained the lines of subsidies in difficult and restrictive times from an economic point of view, now that the budget is growing, we understand that this item must also grow, which now amounts to 256,000 euros”.

This chapter on subsidies and aid reserves almost 35,000 euros to sports entities. The assigned amounts are based, as explained by the mayor, on criteria such as “size, history, budget, number of partners or components, volume of activities or training schools.” The beneficiary entities will be the Royal Sports Club Gara (13,000 euros), El Roque Basketball Club (8,000 euros), Veterans Gara (900 euros), the AC Cyclist Cachibache (1,000 euros), the ACD El Lamero Roque Garaof dominoes (1,000 euros), the CD Ayoze Rodriguez (1,000 euros), the CD Podona Trail (1,500 euros), the Prakan North Tenerife CD (2,000 euros), Garachico EMT Tennis (1,200 euros), the futsal team Simpsons of El Guincho (1,000 euros), the Los Culegas Barcelona Supporters Club (600 euros), the CD Gigantsport (1,500 euros) and the Garapateo Hiking AC (600 euros).

In the municipal budget there is also a budget provision for aid to individual athletes, “which will be governed by some bases that will come out in a next call, once the budget is definitively approved,” reports Jose Heriberto Gonzalez.

cultural entities

The most important block is that of subsidies for cultural entities, which has €72,500 in total. will benefit Garachico Musical Association Cultural Association (11,000 euros), the Band Our Lady of the Kings (3,000 euros), the Band of Bugles and Drums San Martín de Porres (3,000 euros), the Ben Gara Cultural Association (4,000 euros), Menceyes of Daute (3,000 euros), the Batukeiro Rhythm Association (700 euros), the A.C. Cabalrey (7,000 euros), the AC Mateo Vina (3,000 euros) and the AC El Sargo (6,000 euros), “that this year they will specifically receive an additional 3,500 euros to help recruit a chirigota participating in the Carnival of Cádiz, since it is the year of the reactivation of the Carnival and within the Contest in honor of Samuel, a well-known murguero passed away a few years ago”. They will also receive municipal aid AC Donato Afonso Correa (1,200 euros) and the murga Los Ferrusquentos (2,500 euros).

Both in the case of sports and cultural entities, the Garachico Town Hall “It will also provide them with additional help from the logistical and facilities point of view,” underlines the mayor.

Cultural, musical and artistic training is another “very important” aspect for the local government (CC), which is why they reserve 67,000 euros from the municipal budget to help the Daute-Isla Baja Music School (35,000 euros); he Garachico Artistic Training Space (18,000 euros), and the Garachico School of Ethnography and Folklore (14,000 euros), developed through the AC Ben Gara. González recalls that “at the same time, we are restoring spaces such as the old Franciscan convent, the old San Isidoro school and we have built a new building to house musical training on the plot where the Martín de Andújar school was located.”

The two existing neighborhood associations in the suburban neighborhoods, which until a few years ago were in charge of organizing important events such as Three Kings Eve in their neighborhoods or the Corpus of the Buttwill receive subsidies for a global value of 3,000 euros: 1,500 euros for the Genovés Neighborhood Associationand the same amount for the El Morbeque de La Culata Neighborhood Association. “They will also have additional logistical help and facilities from the city council,” insists the nationalist president.

For its contribution to the development of such an important event for Garachico as the San Roque Pilgrimage, the City Council wants to financially support the Traditional Association of Carreteros. “Last year was the first time that the city council contributed to them with the payment of the crane and in this 2023 we want to go one step further by helping them to a greater extent because they are a fundamental element for the organization and smooth running of the event”, he advances. Gonzalez. The grant to this association will be 2,500 euros. At the same time, the legal services of the city council are studying the draft agreement sent by the Cabildo for the transfer of a piece of land they own for the storage of carts.

Security and civil protection

For the security and civil protection sector, the Garachiquense Consistory reserves 6,700 euros, which will be distributed among the Garachico Rescue and Emergency Group (5,500 euros) and the Ycoden Daute Volunteer Firefighters (1,200 euros). The Northern City Council also has a Civil Protection body made up of volunteers equipped with two vehicles and other means, which it wants to continue strengthening.

Another 7,500 euros are reserved for tourist activities, which will go to the Garachico Tourism and Initiatives Center (5,000 euros) and at Garachico Dramatized Routes (2,500 euros). For the older ones, there will be 10,000 euros more. The Mar y Lava and San Andrés Senior Citizens Associations They will receive 5,000 euros each, which will allow them to have “more municipal resources than ever.”

Aid for associations of mothers and fathers of students

Garachico allocates for the first time specific economic items for the associations of parents of students from centers in the municipality. There will be larger contributions for the two active ampas: the Antonio del Valle school, which will receive 4,000 euros for extracurricular activities, and the Las Salinas school, in La Caleta, which will receive 3,500 euros for a project to reactivate the library . The mayor points out that for the two ampas that “are more inactive now and that we intend to start up again, there will be 2,000 euros (Colegio de Genovés) and 1,000 euros (IES Alcalde Lorenzo Dorta), in this second case to help the end-of-year trip or some other activity”. There will also be 10,000 euros more for scholarships and school aid.
