SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has finished its first weekend of events in the streets with the participation of 350,000 people throughout these three days, from the Friday that the Annunciator Parade was held until today, the Sunday that the Day Carnival.
The data, provided by the organization, confirm the success of the participation of carnival men and women “who have lived the first weekend of Carnival in the street, which augurs a Piñata weekend with spectacular figures,” said the mayor of the city, Jose Manuel Bermudez.
“Our Carnival in the street is unbeatable and the enormous desire of the people to participate is confirming our forecasts of a massive attendance of hundreds of thousands of people who are enjoying this first weekend,” said Bermúdez, who highlighted “the low number of incidents for the huge concentration of people in an event like this and that confirm us as the safest Carnival in the world”.
For his part, the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, valued the economic impact that Carnival entails for the city, “with a one hundred percent occupied accommodation floor, to which must be added the benefits of shops and restaurants that these days are serving thousands of people”.
This Sunday, one of the two great Daytime Carnival celebrations was held, designed for all ages and with a strong family character. In addition, this first Daytime Carnival has included some very important events in the history of chicharreras festivities, such as the performances in the Plaza del Príncipe by the Ni Fu Ni Fa Afilarmónica and the lyrical-musical group Los Fregolinos.
The stages located in the Plaza del Príncipe and La Candelaria, as well as the one located on Avenida Francisco La Roche, have hosted a multitude of concerts throughout the weekend in which, mainly, Canarian artists and orchestras have performed at the dances Friday and Saturday night.
