The PSOE of La Palma has regretted that Alberto Núñez Feijóo has waited almost a year since he was president of the Popular Party to travel to the island, which was seriously affected by the volcanic eruption, and he does so “with the sole intention of adding noise and cloud the reconstruction process, instead of adding to and contributing to the recovery process”.
“A lightning trip, of a few hours, to cover the file, in which he has made proposals that are underway from all the public administrations that are working on the recovery process of La Palma, such as the multi-year investment plan, which This year’s State Budget contemplates 100 million euros”, according to the general secretary of the PSOE of La Palma, Anselmo Pestana.
The socialist leader has highlighted the “resounding” commitment of the Government of Spain, as well as the administrations as a whole, in the recovery of the Aridane Valley. In this sense, he wanted to recall that the mixed commission addressed the multi-annual plan, which will be coordinated by the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Héctor Izquierdo, in addition to assessing the personal income tax deduction approved by the Government of Spain for La Palma, which represents an economic injection for the Island of about 60 million euros, or financing for gas measurement equipment.
“Alberto Núñez Feijóo not only arrives late to La Palma, but also badly, because far from contributing to the complex reconstruction process that the Island is facing, he gets entangled in commonplaces and proposes measures that are already being carried out,” added Anselmo Pestana.
The leader of the La Palma socialists highlighted that the Government of Spain chaired by Pedro Sánchez “has turned” to the island of La Palma, for which it has already mobilized more than 500 million euros of funds to help people affected by the volcano, which added to what was contributed by the rest of the administrations reaches 670 million euros.
In this sense, he highlighted the social response given by the Government to the volcano crisis, but also to that of Covid-19 and the current situation derived from Putin’s war in Ukraine, in the face of the measures promoted in the financial crisis by the Popular executive, “focused on every man for himself,” he added.
“The Government has carried out an unprecedented mobilization of resources in the face of a catastrophe like the one that La Palma has suffered and will continue to do so until each and every one of the life projects that were cut short by the volcanic eruption are recovered,” Pestana added. .
In this sense, he has valued the contributions made “to promote employment, through a special plan that managed to significantly reduce unemployment in circumstances where an important part of the productive fabric of the Aridane Valley had been destroyed; the aid for SMEs and autonomous; the ertes; or the measures in favor of the agriculture and fishing of La Palma”.
“The people who were affected by the volcanic eruption and the island of La Palma as a whole have had the support, encouragement and closeness of the Government from minute one of this crisis, which has mobilized quickly and effectively in the reconstruction of the island, recovering infrastructures, generating employment and promoting measures in favor of the social majority of the Island”, affirmed Anselmo Pestana.
