SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Plenary Session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands has approved this Wednesday a Non-Legal Proposal (PNL) presented by Sí Podemos, CC-PNC and PP in which the regulatory review of the land law is requested in relation to the project declaration procedure of insular and regional interest.
The proposal also asks the Ministry of Ecological Transition to request a report on the environmental impact and biodiversity of the ‘Dreamland Studio’ project that is intended to be built in Fuerteventura and report the agreement to the Cabildo.
Francisco Déniz, from Sí Podemos, has commented that the processing of this project is a “perverse effect” of the land law and a “strainer” to get “more tourism and shopping centers” thanks to his “grotesque session” of the Cabildo in which the declaration of insular interest was approved.
He has commented that his group -which has distanced itself from the Pact of Flowers- is in favor of the film industry but understands that ‘Dreamland’ is a “tourist leisure” project and that the island does not need studios “like those from Hollywood”.
In his opinion, this project is a “theme park in disguise” given that 86% of its annual turnover, some 18 million, comes from ticket sales to tourists.
Fernando Enseñat (PP) has defended his party’s support for the project “but not its location” given that the island’s landscape is very important and “generates value” for which reason he has demanded island planning of the territory that takes into account the “sustainability”.
He has urged all groups to “look for another location” while acknowledging that “the land law has been misused.”
Mario Cabrera, from Grupo Nacionalista, has commented that the urgency “is not justified” with this project that is intended to be built on a land of agrarian protection and that it does not comply with the subsidiary regulations of the municipality of La Oliva or with the land law itself .
He has said that it affects more than 30 birds in the area and that it has the rejection of the film producers, since Fuerteventura is already a “natural set” and there is no need for a “megaproject” like this that has generated great “rejection social”.
Cabrera has commented that the land law “is not bad” but it must be “improved” because it makes a “misuse” of the declaration of insular interest. “The ball is in Ángel Víctor Torres’s court,” he pointed out.
ESPINO: “IT IS A SERIOUS MISTAKE THAT MUST BE CORRECTED”
Vidina Espino, spokesperson for the Mixed Group, has pointed out that “not everything goes” to achieve the diversification of the Canary Islands economy, much less “twist” the land law to “sneak” a project like that of ‘Dreamland’ “at 400 meters of the Corralejo dunes” and with a great visual “impact” and on protected species and birds. “It is a serious error that has to be corrected,” she stressed.
Jesús Ramos (ASG) believes that “if there were no elections” an agreement would have been reached between all the groups to find another location for the project, while pointing out that the land law “is not bad”, it just requires some “adjustments “.
Luis Campos, spokesman for NC, has made it clear that his party does not support the location of the complex and has distanced himself from the vote cast in the plenary session of the Cabildo because the counselor has been expelled and no longer represents the formation.
He has pointed out that the project can help diversify tourism through cinema “but it cannot be located in that space”, also stressing that there is “social rejection” and environmental damage.
Rosa Bella Cabrera, from the Socialist Group, has called it “surreal” that CC and PP, promoters of the land law, “have the audacity to give lessons on developmentalism and sustainability” and has wondered “where they were” when they approved a law that emptied the Government of the Canary Islands of environmental powers to give them to the councils.
“They have created a problem and now they disguise it as demagogy and political opportunism,” he stressed.
